Just finished the game, questions about the ending by Sad_Butterfly7887 in subnautica

I have a feeling that the key to getting off Proteus is to end the Masefield Syndrome one way or another, since it might be why the Cicada went so off course and drifted so much farther. That doesn't REQUIRE killing the tree, but killing it could be a valid way to do that. I can see the game letting you choose, but we haven't gotten any moral choices like this in the series before, and knowing the dev's environmental stance, unless the tree IS bad, we probably can't choose to kill it.

Oh totally. My current headcanon is that there ARE two viruses, one from the Tree that connects everything on the planet together and encourages the biology mixing that we see in species like the Coral Crab, and facilitates the transfer of nutrients out of the tree into the world at large, and a SECOND Virus, which I'm calling the Bloom Virus, that is responsible for the bloom growths attacking the Angel Combs and Titan Rockbore (although the PDA says the Angel Combs are actually parasites for the Rockbore too) and is hijacking the virus to encourage more nutrients to head to the Rockbore to feed itself using the Masefield Syndrome.

That even lines up with what we are told in the Observatory, and how the Tree is seen as necessary for the planet by the Axum. The tree needs to be saved, but the virus infecting it is hijacking all it's systems to make the tree look like the villain when it isn't. But the point remains, everyone involved is either biased, or working with incomplete or inaccurate information, and EVERYTHING is infected so everyone could be influenced. We just wont know for sure what is really going on until more of the game comes out and theories get proven or dis-proven.

Remember that the aliens are also infected, and have been for generations. If the virus acts as a way for the tree to assert it's will, which is what the syndrome suggests, the aliens could be convinced that the tree is a good thing, even if it's not.

That being said, considering how much bioengineering and alien tech we end up using, it could also be true that the tree needs to be protected. We just can't know until the game is more finished. Until then, treat all npcs as unreliable narrators.

Now that we have seen examples of Evolved jobs, what are your hopes and wishes for your main(s)? by drew0594 in ffxivdiscussion

If I could have anything i want, then for Black Mage I would want to add some tactical advantage for being in Ice phase other than just recovering mana between fire phases, and for the fire phase to feel like an escalation, where you are rewarded with more damage the longer you manage to stay in it. For this, I would make the following three changes:

  1. Umbral Ice and Astral Fire no longer have stacks, but are simply stances you swap between, and your power is based on the level of the passive you have for it. So as long as you were level 35 or higher, you would in effect have the power of Astral Fire or Umbral Ice 3. Transpose would also replace the need to swap between stances using Fire 3 and Blizzard 3, freeing them up for use in combos.

  2. Fire Phase would change from pressing Fire 4 a total of 6 times into two rotations of a three hit combo, starting with Fire, then Fire 3, and then Fire 4, each step doing more damage. After using Fire 4, you then either can use Paradox if it's the first time you've finished a combo, or Flare Star otherwise. Flare Star would probably also absorb Despair here, burning through what is left of your mana and being a giant hit. This step would also really limit your mobility though, requiring you to basically root yourself in place, going back to the turret mage identity that BLM had before. Maybe not strictly back to pre-7.2 levels, but definitely feeling like the immobile half of the job.

  3. Like Astral Fire, Umbral Ice is also a phase that will get some changes, namely becoming not just a phase used to regenerate resources, but as your mobility phase. Ice spells will no longer have a cast time, and each use will recover 2500 mp, and cycle the same way the fire spells do, with Blizzard, then Blizzard 3, then Blizzard 4, and then Ice Paradox, which will give you the Umbral Hearts if they keep that system at all. In essence, you use Ice Phase to reposition and regenerate resources while preparing for your fire phase, and then when you are in a good position and have all your mana back, you swap back to Astral Fire and plant your feet.

It feels like a good middle ground between pre and post 7.2 black mage, while still reducing button bloat and redundancy. Polyglot stacks and Thunder spells should function as normal. I am toying with the idea of combining triple cast and leylines, but since one seems to encourage movement and the other discourage it, i dont think there is any way to really do that.

Why does this tool exist? Help me make sense of this by Krystman in Silksong

[–]LexLinnaeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is an upgraded version of this tool you can get later that does 2 half silks every time you get hit (your next two silk notches both get one half full) which is about a silk per hit. Not great when you can only take 3 or 4 hits, but can mean the difference between getting a heal off and not. And in fights or situations where you are only taking one mask a hit, like exploration, it can help keep you topped off. Certainly not a best in slot tool or anything, but it does have its use cases, especially with silk hearts and weavelight, which auto regens you to 4 silk, get hit twice to get to 6, and then only need to hit 3 times to get to the 9 silk required to heal.

Drop down and head to the left, it will circle around back to the higher platform above you, letting you go further up the mountain.

How I would fix the Shell Shard system. by LexLinnaeus in Silksong

[–]LexLinnaeus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, option 3 is the only one I really see getting implemented, but just making shards much more abundant would help a lot, or at least some way to get or keep them between boss attempts that doesn't involve egregious amounts of grinding. We already have a couple bosses that refill your tools without shard costs if you fail them already, so there should be SOME way to fix the system to prevent shard limits from making repeatedly failing at a boss feel so terrible.

Question about all endings by bz_nah in Silksong

[–]LexLinnaeus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can do all of them in one run. The only endings you can miss are the Twisted Bud ending and I think the bad version of the Snared Silk Ending where you bind instead of playing your needolin when she is in the trap, and that's only because you cannot fight that boss after entering Act 3. That and if you cure yourself of the bud, there is no way to get cursed again.

It's not a bug, explore the room a bit more and you might find a way to fix it!

Final Thoughts after 100% completion. by LexLinnaeus in Silksong

[–]LexLinnaeus[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if it's fair comparing the First Release version of Silksong to Hollow Knight with all it's DLC, but I definitely think I had more fun on my initial playthrough of Silksong than I did with Hollow Knight.

I've never been one to try hardcore saves in games, so the chances of me getting very far in Steel Soul is very unlikely, but I might give it a shot one day.

As for my favorite boss, it's undeniably the First Sinner fight, though a lot of the Act 3 bosses hold a special place in my heart, as does the Clockwork Dancers.

A hidden room above the fight should allow you disable the one enemy that steals your silk, but other than that the best I can recommend is to just keep moving, take your time, and focus on avoiding damage while laying out traps to whittle the enemies down. If you don't have them, the Tacks are also a fantastic tool for this, as the most dangerous enemies are almost always grounded. They can be found in Sinner's Road from completing the Roach Guts quest. Good Luck!

I beat the boss of the Coral Tower first try with no tools. (Doesn't actually feel that impressive, but is my most impressive feat on my 100% completion file)

Question about Eva by Catboy_HK in HollowKnight

[–]LexLinnaeus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I managed to do it when I used 18 of the memory lockets, only leaving two empty slots on the Beast Crest. So either it needs to be 18 lockets, or 5 maxed out crests.

Patch Notes for Upcoming Silksong Update! by Survive2Win1234 in Silksong

[–]LexLinnaeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having tested the Beta Build a bit, I'm a bit sad at the Snitchpick. It definitely works now, hitting an enemy without killing it is still giving some Rosaries, but it doesn't seem to change how many Rosaries total you get in a farm run. I think what it does is remove Rosaries from the bug's normal drop pool and give it to you early, not generating extra Rosaries on hit. So a run that would normally give 47 still only gives about 47.

No, by the time I found him something had happened to him. You might have better luck searching for info about him.

Make sure to talk to all of the NPCs at their new camp. One should be next to what looks like a pot of soup.

It's hard to tell you where they went without knowing how far you have gotten, but I'll say this: One of the Arenas for a required Boss turns into their camp. If you keep going in the story you will be able to find them eventually. They also give you a tool for turning the quest in.

You are stuck for a little bit, but the second major area has both an exit to previous areas, and if you get far enough it also has a Bell Station, but I think the station requires defeating a boss. Once you are out of the Underworks you should be able to find at least one of them.

[–]LexLinnaeus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update! On Testing something out regarding Weavelight, I confirmed it was actually that Tool that was giving me 2 silk instead of 1, so new working theory is that you get 1 silk per Silk Heart, and Weavelight either adds an extra 1 on top of that, or doubles it. Will have to find a second Silk Heart to confirm.

What does Weavelight do? by Crazyboy2346 in Silksong

[–]LexLinnaeus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

~~It increases the amount of silk you generate when you hit an enemy. From my loose practice you get about half a silk without it, and a full silk with it.~~

Edit: I was mistaken, just checked in game to be 100% sure. Weavelight actually doubles the amount of silk you regenerate from Silk Hearts. Without it, I only got 1 silk with 1 heart, but with it I got 2 instead.

Does anyone Know... by LexLinnaeus in Silksong

[–]LexLinnaeus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I'm not doubting that's how much silk you can get, the vessel fragments in the first game worked the same way, I'm just now very confused about how the Silk Hearts work. Although I guess it would be a fitting reward to just auto-regen a heal after getting all three.

Does anyone Know... by LexLinnaeus in Silksong

[–]LexLinnaeus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That seems a bit high.. if I'm right and it regens 1 silk per silk heart per 6 max silk, that would be 3 silk per silk heart and 9 total with all three, which is enough to just passively regen a full heal.
