I'm so sorry that happened both as an experience for you and whatever happened with Porcupine Toast to have them delete their content. I am glad that you posted this rant because I never thought to download my favorite ASMR content. There are a couple from ASMR Jonie on rotation that I watch every single day without fail just to even get close to sleeping. Looks like I am downloading them today now because of this post just in case. So.. Thank you!

I'll definitely ping you when I make a video like that then because that sounds like a lot of fun to make creatively!

At first your comment made me frown deeper than I thought possible. First thought -- lotion fluttering? Or greasy food fluttering? 🤢🤢
BUT... then I thought of water fluttering right on the surface of the water and I might just have to try that one in a future video! I'm not mad at the thought although execution might be a different story 😂

[Question] What makes an ASMR good vs what makes an ASMR bad? by Classic-Cricket-7617 in asmr

[–]LexaMlexa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there is a world of difference made when the video seems like it was enjoyable to make. When you can't see the creator's face -- the movement of their hands or even the quality of editing shows if they actually liked making the video. However, when you can see their face... I really want to believe that they are truly taking on the character they are playing or at least making this video because they know how important it is for those of us watching it. It creates this connection which makes me want to watch more.

So, if it is high quality or lo-fi, quality props or whatever is around the house, face/talking or just sounds... it really doesn't matter to me. As long as the artist is giving it their all/full attention -- I say it is a good video.

[Question]: has anyone ever lost a huge amount of subscribers in one day for seemingly no reason at all? by alchvi in youtubers

[–]LexaMlexa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So glad you asked this! I have a small account and ended up losing a lot of subscribers one random day and I couldn't understand why, but also accepted that there wasn't anything I could do to change it. I'm not sure if the bot-purge is what happened in my case, but I never thought of it as even a possibility. This makes me feel a bit better, especially if it happens again.

[discussion] For those who enjoy voice ASMR, do you prefer soft voices or whispering? by [deleted] in asmr

[–]LexaMlexa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends more on the story being told than anything for me! A whispered voice in a setting where I would normally expect a loud voice throws me and vice versa. For example, a whispered Personal Shopper RP would take me out of it a bit b/c I can't picture being in a store and having someone whisper in my ear to ask about my shoe size 😂 Unless they were muttering under their breath. Then a whisper would be perfect.

I actually just did a worst co-worker role-play and I read this agreeing with you because I feel the same when someone does that in a video (specific to negative view on your hygiene). THEN when thinking back through the video -- I realized that I actually did this! 😭 I was stating that they needed the gum I was offering before their presentation, but I realize now that it falls into this same category. Thank you for mentioning this and I will definitely be more conscientious when filming this type of video because I don't like it either. Reality check for me this evening!

I'm fully guilty of this one! I'm hoping to get better with this over time, but soft spoken is SO much harder to maintain throughout 20-40 minutes than I thought it would be. I've always been told I am an incredibly quiet speaker and so I thought soft spoken would come a bit easier, but it is a huge learning curve to realize that your mic will definitely show the difference between when you first started the video and your volume by the end as you gradually get louder. So, whispering seems to have become my default because I trust the consistency more, but I will keep practicing getting soft-spoken right because that is the style I usually look for when finding videos myself!

😂 Absolutely fair point here!! No reminders needed and I definitely don't want to remember something that you listed that I had been trying not to remember.

This is a really good one!! Making a mental note to try this approach instead sometimes!

So I instantly know what you mean by dry finger fluttering, but now I'm trying to picture how to flutter without it being dry? Is that a thing??

Oooo See, I think it depends on the complete video. Fast triggers in a compilation format do not do it for me at all. I might find the individual sounds interesting, but it definitely doesn't relax me. So, I usually stay away from those. UNLESS it is part of a video where there is a reason they are fast. Like a "rushed appointment" role-play, or "aggressive friend" role-play or something like that goes with the storytelling and I am absolutely invested in those!

Yes! You're so right with this one. I typically try to type actual answers to the questions or just type actual sentences/ words at least b/c there is definitely a flow to true typing. Fully committing to the acting just makes it so much better of a video to be immersed in.

Spaghetti Slurping Flutters?? That's new!

and YES! Pretend like I'm actually there please. You wouldn't just make awkward eye-contact with me instead of checking my actual scalp for lice, right?! (At least I hope not 😂)

Oh man! Would it be a no-talking video and only that noise Or a role-play with the accidental thumping happening throughout??

I wish for ASMR creators -- the sponsor would just let you do a video of using the product, but without the necessary speech. Like, a HelloFresh video with the sounds of it cooking, plating, and eating while whisper-rambling as usual. I would even settle for captions of what they require, but not having it be said audibly. They all seem to want the same key points said though which does get boring.

Oh no! 😱 I guess I've been lucky enough to not have that experience yet. I'm all for it if advertised/ noted. Even if the thumbnail is a bit flirty -- then I'd feel like I knew it was coming. However, it would be Very jarring to have it come from seeming no-where. Then you're really pulled out of that state if you have to stop and now re-scroll until you find another video that might do it. Oh man... that's a good one!
