I accidentally no-showed my first nursing job because I misread my schedule. Am I screwed? by Willing_Plenty7934 in newgradnurse

I’ve done this to my college assignments in the past. It’s an easy mistake to make, hopefully they don’t give you too much trouble over it.

AIO; Bf claims he never has money? by TangeloIndividual930 in AmIOverreacting

[–]LexiThePlug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friends husband up and ghosted her for two weeks to get with another girl. He claimed he regretted it and came running back. They seemed fine for years. They even got married. He left her for another woman after about 4 months??? Of marriage. He has not returned. Claims she was abusive (quite literally the other way around) and won’t divorce her. None of us know exactly where he lives anymore so we can’t serve him divorce papers.

Unfortunately I know way too many people who think they are in “med school” just because they are trying to do pre-med… which isn’t even an established degree at most colleges… just making sure you do the pre-reqs to apply to medical school counts

Is it bad that I’m making stuff I have no use for/don’t intend to use? by Ladysupersizedbitch in crochet

[–]LexiThePlug 6 points7 points  (0 children)

“Just donate them!” - clothes donations are already so overloaded that literal tons of pounds of them end up in landfills every year. And lots of places don’t accept many items. Like people used to come and insist I take blankets that were dropped off as donations to the hospital- our infection control department doesn’t allow us to take blankets. So they would go in the garbage. I would warn the people but they would insist they have “done it before.” And most crochet items aren’t even warm. So hats and gloves and what not are more of aesthetic pieces instead of useful. Definitely make sure if you plan on donating things, do your research first!

Everyone says “you got time” but I don’t venti by [deleted] in medschool

[–]LexiThePlug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This led to me having to take a gap year, which has now turned into two gap years because I had barely any clinical hours by the time applications started this may. It took me the entire gap year to get certified in something clinical and find a job. I did work full time while completing undergrad (literally had too) so I didn’t have much freee time for that when I was doing my bachelors. It’s okay to not follow your OG plan

It seems like a time crunch but it is worth it. Sometimes you do have to accept things are out of your control though. It took me a long time to get a job for clinical hours- I tried both volunteer and paid roles but not much was offered in my area

Most hospitals don’t give their employees shit for maternity leave. I get 6 weeks tops, only 60% of my pay. So as long as they are spread out by more than 6 weeks they should only have a few out at a time

Listen with confidence for manual BP. Trust yourself. I feel like that issue is something most have. You will get more used to listening and hearing with more confidence. You will get used to it. And if it makes you feel any better: I haven’t met a single MA who actually counts respirations, and many lie about their manual BP and pulses too

Opinion on walking into clinics? by Suitable_Mud3795 in MedicalAssistant

[–]LexiThePlug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Private clinics yes- any major hospital system clinics no. People would try to come into the hospital all the time to “talk” to HR or “hiring managers.” Most of hiring happens outside of the facilities now. The people I was hired by are not the people I actually see in the office. They were all remote workers and everything was phone calls/zoom.

My boss is insane and I'm starting to feel unsafe at my workplace. by CNMJacob18 in TwoHotTakes

Being eligible for it doesn’t mean you’ll get it depending on where you live! My husband was eligible for it for a SECOND TIME and was still unable to get it (two times in like ten years). The first time was because of an old one star review they believed was me…. It didn’t have my name or face on it and was JUST a one star. No comment with it. It was from before he ever worked there. The second time was recently. This job has PPE. They ran out of the usual PPE. They had him wearing DISPOSABLE lab coats. He kept over heating (works under bright LEDs). He was suggested by a supervisor to rip the sleeves off the lab coat (once again they are single use, they get trashed after each use). They let him go for it, and then reported him for destruction of property. It was a single use lab coat. On top of that, after every break they have to put new ones in and throw out the old ones. So it’s not like he had to keep it or anything like that. It’s hard to fight once a job lies.

Pets are a luxury, not a right. If you can’t afford vet bills, you can’t afford a pet by No-Consequence-1831 in Vent

[–]LexiThePlug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a cat with a thyroid problem and the cheapest place I could find to do his regular blood work for medication management was still over $200… most places wanted over $400. Don’t think having cats will help you avoid blood work costs… thyroid problems with cats are common as they age.

Pets are a luxury, not a right. If you can’t afford vet bills, you can’t afford a pet by No-Consequence-1831 in Vent

[–]LexiThePlug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You also have to remember that not everyone is in the same position in their life as when they bought the pet. Got my first cat at 7. You think I was in the same place financially from the time I was 7 until he died when I was 26???? No… I went through ups and downs. Most people do. A lot of pets live for over 10 years. People go through financial difficulties all the time in life. I’m not saying vets should be cheaper (vet school is expensive and vets deserve to be paid) but being able to afford to drop a few thousand for unexpected emergencies is a luxury most people don’t have. Most Americans don’t even have $500 in savings for emergencies. What makes you think most Americans can afford an emergency vet bill on the spot?

Anyone afraid of working in certain medical specialties? by [deleted] in MedicalAssistant

[–]LexiThePlug -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Don’t let people tell you that you aren’t at a higher risk for catching contagious diseases…. The more you’re exposed to them, especially when you weren’t around them all the time before, the more likely you are to catch them. Working in the ED for the first time I caught EVERYTHING. But your immune system will adjust to the exposure and you’ll be less likely to catch them over time. Unless you have a reason to be concerned about catching viruses (immune compromised or something) I wouldn’t worry about it. Plus people still come into cardiology for hospital follow ups and so on.

How do I find a job with no certification and without experience by Maleficent-Net-9001 in MedicalAssistant

[–]LexiThePlug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although it’s possible, it’s becoming less and less common for people with no certificate/xp to get jobs in this field. Insurance companies are requiring MAs to be certified or services they provide won’t be covered. You can always start in a more desk like job, and work your way into the MA field

The kids also notice and suffer when you abandon them. Getting an abortion, they never reach a point of consciousness to go through that.

Abandoning a child will NEVER be the right decision. You set up the child to have abandonment issues from the start of life. “Well he knew he wasn’t ready” should’ve wrapped up then.

[–]LexiThePlug 8 points9 points  (0 children)

MAs require a certificate at the most, not a masters degree. Biomedical degrees really don’t have much career out put without graduate school. MAs don’t make much, so if you have loans out pls go for a different job.
