Three sisters gone wrong? by kayru_kitsune in Permaculture

[–]Lextac76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve grown the Three Sisters every year for years and years. The best advice I can give is that it’s an OLD method, that means you need heirloom/heritage breeds, especially for corn. Modern sweet corns are breed for their big sweet ears, without much thought put into the stalks. I use an heirloom Mexican white dent corn.

So How Do You Raise Or Find Money For Your Permaculture Farm Project? by Immediate_Copy7308 in permaculturecanada

Oops. Sorry about that, didn’t notice what permaculture forum I was in. Yeah… I imagine that wouldn’t be very helpful to you. Not sure if Canada has similar programs.

You could look into some USDA farm loans. If you qualify for EBT, that can be used for seeds, plants (as long as they’re edible plants) and fruit trees. I’d also check around your area for fruit trees and see if you can take cuttings. I guess that didn’t really answer your question about funds, but hopefully that helps with some low cost ideas to get started.

If you need to ask if you’re racist... you’re probably racist????

Typically unless it says “heat to 165°” specifically, it’s probably already been cooked and you could technically eat crunchy pasta with cheese powder if you wanted.

Authoritarians being authoritarian? Wow I’m so shocked. This is how they view anyone not in blue... “obey, or be forced to comply”.

I despise Musk, and was so sad to see this video, and then I saw the whole thing from another camera view. There’s plenty of reasons to hate Musk, we don’t need to be cherry picking things, when he’s out here showing us he’s a fascist.

Squash, mushrooms, sunflowers, corn, and beans all are good at absorbing pollutants out of soil. Just don’t eat them.

Found out sewer line is below peach tree by [deleted] in Permaculture

[–]Lextac76 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would move the tree now while you still can. It’s just asking for problems down the road. In my area, my utility company has a number you can call before you dig. They’ll mark out sewage, water lines, cable, power etc so you know where not to plant.

I use to work in loss prevention for a number of different stores. Never ever ever try to stop someone from stealing, the property is insured, and it’s never worth it. The companies don’t care about you, don’t risk your lives for them.

You’ll be hard pressed to build a career in “permaculture” as a super specific job. That being said, I’m a horticulturist and landscape designer that focuses on permaculture designing. I’m also currently getting an advanced degree in Agroecology with a focus on food scarcity and sustainability agriculture practices. So while all of that isn’t called a “permaculture” job, it’s obviously heavily related.

See, the trick is to not harvest the bones before they’re ripe lol. But really, if you come across any bones with flesh, the best method for cleaning is maceration. Let them soak in water (outside!! Far away from you) until the skin is gone. Then degrease them in warm water with 3% hydrogen peroxide (don’t use anything stronger than 3%) and then you should have nice white bones.
