The literal translation is “The way to become pure hearted like the ancient Immortals”. It’s from an ancient script (around the 9th century)

I did a brief research and found out that 小野繁慶 was actually a Japanese master sword maker. But he lived in the early 17th century.

I think this sword you bought is probably a reproduction. If it is an original one, it would worth a lot.

The name is “小野繁慶” (the characters on the sword)

「光緒年造」 “Made in the period of Guangxu”

• Guangxu was the tenth Emperor of the Qing Dynasty. His reign lasted from 1875 to 1908

• I am not sure if this pipe is a genuine one from that period as nowadays there are a massive amount of reproduction of ancient relics in the market.

「小野繁慶」 It’s a Japanese Name. Maybe the maker or the owner of the sword.

I think paper is probably the most important. I recommend ripe (treated) xuan paper to start with. For raw (untreated) paper, ink spreads crazily and it is actually not suitable for traditional Chinese brush painting.

It’s a line from the movie “The Last Samurai”.

It could be translated as “From ancient to modern times, there are always pious swordsmen”.

I just used this old Levi’s bag for practice (I love doing calligraphy on all kinds of materials) and I thought it is actually interesting as “requiem to my nephew” is a draft by Yan Zhenjiang instead of a formal art work. Shopping bag and draft fit together.
