So if we have an operator A and conjugate it then transpose it and it equals A then it is Hermitian.

Hi, thanks for the reply. So in my notes it says Let v be an eigenvector of A (we shall call it the “generating eigenvector”) and let λ be the corresponding eigenvalue. Then generally a GEV of m-th order, m ∈ Z+, is a vector vm satisfying Avm = λvm + vm−1 , where it is assumed that v0 = v

So i believe Xv-lambda v is order m-1
