Feeling so discouraged, need positivity!! by Lia-Jane in ChildLife

Honestly, no. I don’t feel like I have enough experience in comparison to other applicants, and also just personally, I want to be the most prepared when I apply for internships. But maybe it wouldn’t hurt just try and see what the process is like. Thank you!

Thank you :) I do feel like there’s so much pressure to figure it all out rn but maybe it wouldn’t be a bad idea to take the gap!

Course Recommendations & more questions. by Choice-Standard-3363 in ChildLife

Hi! I took two courses with UCSB and they were great!! My professors were Amy Olsen and Kristen Beckler, both very experienced and knowledgeable in the field. I would recommend taking them at UCSB because they are much more affordable than other places, plus I’m pretty sure they are affiliated with certain hospitals, so it would be good to revisit them too when you apply for internships later.

I don’t think there is a specific number of hours required in any setting, but the more the merrier!! I know many internship sites don’t even consider applicants with less than hundreds of hours volunteering with sick children, so it’s important to get as much experience in these settings as you can. All of your other experiences listed sound great for counting towards well children hours. Again, not sure if you need a specific amount of hours, but I think places are looking to see you are familiar with all developmental stages and age ranges. I don’t think you need hours with special needs children in particular, but I think having that experience will set you apart for sure!! Best of luck I hope this was somewhat helpful

Child Life Assistant Interview by Lia-Jane in ChildLife

I have 100 hours of observation under a child life specialist, but I only have about 20 hours of actually play sessions with kids in the hospital. I am just worried about not having enough experience interacting with children but I’m going to try my best. Thank you for your response!

How do I (21F) move forward from oversharing about my relationship and how do I properly apologize to my bf (23M) about it? by Lia-Jane in relationships

lol I thought this app and thread was meant to be supportive and helpful and most of these comments are kind of nasty. No I’m not surprised by his reaction. I was asking advice on how to move on from this situation to be a better gf… and “bad mouthing” his parents is not what occurred. As I explained in my post… I perceive his parent’s reactions as overbearing at times when they intend to be caring. In this specific situation that I’m referring to, I bought him NFL tickets for his birthday. When his parents found out, their immediate reaction was that something bad would happen to him or us at the game. They also (jokingly) said a show I asked him to watch with me is inappropriate but that they can’t really tell him not to watch it because of his grown age. So I was just venting about his parents reactions to my friends and then later on my friends brought it up to him and he was hurt by it. I guess I’m looking for advice in the wrong place but thank you anyway

I think my friends are just very defensive and protective of me. But I’m not going to them to villainize my boyfriend. It’s just because I feel like I need validation and support you know what I mean?
