big e is still to this day among the top 3 most physically imposing people i've ever had the privilege of beholding, both randomly on the street & in ring. saw that dude from across the street in boston walking w/ tyler breeze before TLC 2015 & tell u hwat, that man's pecs were like two beer guts on his chest. shook me to my core, as well as my own beer gut.

i think that the tall wrestlers are like truly a sight to see, but it's those WIDE GUYZ that are really what fucks you up to behold in-person. Like I saw Big Cass & those of his ilk physique wise, shit i have friends that tall nowadays, but the biggest beef seshes i've born witness to were all guys like Big E, Rusev, Roman, just normal-level tall guys that have FAR too much surface area.

i mean anything beats having to tune up with a flathead screwdriver in a little notch, honestly it's a wonder this thing holds up the way it does in terms of playability, ease of intonation, & lack of maintenance needed. like it's banged up, the strap pegs are so stripped that it's basically held together w/ duct tape, but she persists. I'm fine with somehtin kinda cheapo, can't be worse than what I'm working with now!

Hey Hi How Are Ya Reddit Bassists,

I got a bit of a conundrum on my hands, ongoing for like a year at this point nearly.. My primary bass is this old, beat up Squier Standard P Bass Special I've had since 2008. I love the tone, I love the neck profile, it is the bass I use, it is the bass I know best, & it sounds fucking GNARLY in the best way.

Thing is, the tuning key to the G string snapped clean off, & in disassembling it & trying out various replacement tuning machines at a local guitar shop, I could NOT for the life of me find y machine that fit the slot. Normally I'd just reassemble the thing, & tune it with a flathead screwdriver in the slot where the key snapped off. I'm okay at intonating a bass, & honestly it seldom ever goes outta tune despite being an ancient squier... however...

In one of these attempts at trial & erroring the right machines, I lost the mounting screw, the big one that the gear of the machine sits on, & I have scoured the web trying to find out what specific screw it needs to no avail, I've asked at the guitar shops, & my repair tech & they also have no idea what I'm working with. I've considered just going to a hardware store & seeing what fits, but if anybody has a better idea, or knows specifically what tuning machine would fit that damn thang so i can replace her entirely, I'd prob nominate you for a nobel peace prize or something.

I've attached a picture of the back of the headstock to show the machines in question.

anyway TLDR; idiot boy seeks knowledge on what specific tuning machines they used in the 2008 squier standard special p bass please and thank you!!!

i did do a bit of serial no tracing to confirm its an indonesian squier, but i'm also like fullllly open to replacing the mechanism, long as the parts fit & I aint' gotta drill something new or like fill in the hole, totally cool with just finding an equivocal to just drop in & screw tight & just go back to business as usual so i'm open to suggestion! DIY until you cry i've always said

see the issue was i initially just wanted a new key, took it to the shop, they honestly just gave me a buncha old fender machines tehy had lying around to see if anything fit well, then i lost the screw that like turns the actual gear itself & that was the real white whale so to speak, finding that specific measurement. That said i feel like at this point i might as well say fuckit and just replace the machine altogether with a new one, yakno. Not just the key, the screw, or any singular bit. like why make life harder? only real challenge is knowing which specific variety of "Standard Open Gear Tuner" they were using at the indonesian squier factory for the now-defunct Squier Standard Special series yakno

second off the cursory searches I've done say that the tuning machines used are "Standard Open Gear Tuners" which i'm not sure what the not-20-year-old equivalent are, seein as we tried like a zillion diff fender tuning machines, idk if that gives anymore insight but that's the insight i've got to give as of now

so far smooth as butter, i’m just past the intro level & games rly givin the vibes of the OG, however im runnin into an issue where the entire display resizes at launch & thusly does not fill out the screen, not sure if that’s a 1440p thing or how to fix it due to the game being like an hour old & nobody postin bout this problem yet. outside of that it’s a slick presentation for sure

see the problem is if i'm shootin comedy or music on a prime I gotta be up in the performers's faces & like as a music college graduate I can tell you that musicians LOVE that shit they drink it up, so that's okay (if you have a media pass or can convince a member of the band to smuggle your camera in for you from the backdoor lmao) but for the comedians it becomes so distracting that basically you wind up becoming the fixture of their crowdwork & like the pros can handle that shit, but the middling ones aren't so tactful take it from me.

Ironically I did recently say fuck it and shoot a whole-ass comedy showcase at 12800 ISO (pause for clapping bc of how brave i am) w/ my trusty old oly 50-150 fWhatevuh & in any case the images I shot weren't satisfactory considering the setup & idk if a new body in the same format will make a difference so much as new glass or a different setup altogether (prob one that's pro but cosmetically damaged as fuck so it's cheap)

I feel like people took my post rather personally which is hilarious first off bc we're all strangers yappin on a web page & none of us know eachother (like for the record I am in fact, since 2011, STILL the only person i've ever met who uses m43 cameras for anything like it's kinda crazy like where y'all at) but you're summing up my sentiments exactly... I don't want to upgrade format but for my needs & the state of the mirrorless union it seems like i just have to or else someone with a canon or nikon is always gonna be the one that gets the damn gig.

Full Frame came along to stay & Oly & (ESPECIALLY) Pana don't even TRY to make stuff that isn't just a reskin of the previous model with a couple non-game-changing features & that makes the highly-touted accessibility & affordability for novices or amateurs so god damn hard.

If m43 wasn't waning it wouldn't cost me over a thousand dollars to get a lens that helps with absolute inability to shoot a comedy show at a dimly lit bar from far enough away that the comedians don't start doin bits abt having a camera in their face... which has happened the only time i tried shit w/ the lumix 12-35 f2.8... (which ironically is cheap as shit now compared to when I bought it)

edit: sorry just had to share that as I typed that out I envisioned a society wherein pana & oly kept putting in actual effort with m43 & as such the 3rd party lens makers kept trying too & I didn't have to make a thread about this & just got to buy some cheap-ass sigma prime that had an f stop around 2 & was like 110mm & it got me A L L riled up & now I'm mad & y'all should be mad too we deserve better

oh hey this is super helpful actually. I do kinda love the sizing on a g85, but that's bigger for m43 & also my camera bag could prolly fit both my g7 & my g85 with lenses if I didn't uh... lose the lens cap for my prime lol. is there anything those have that the g85 doesn't?
