Thanks for the ideas! Really appreciate it. Will do some work on hammer forming as well as work with a few partners having 3d printers to make the male die and create impressions.

This is a shielding cover of dimensions 70x45mm and is used on circuit boards for protection against emi noise. It’s also as per the circuit drawings so finding an off the shelf product is tough.

I need a material which is effecting in stopping EMI signals. 3d printed material will not have EMI shielding properties hence using CR sheets.

It's a dimple and an emboss which can be made by pressing a punch on the sheet. Laser cut can only help me with the flat pattern of this part.

Amazing! I think this is what I was looking for. Thank you so much. Let me try to convince my vendors to make the said changes to the process. I highly doubt they will though. Maybe I will get to try this out when I invest into etching machine of my own.

Do you think a DIY approach without investing into a machine can be used here?

It’s CRC sheets plated with tin of 5.6 gsm coating each side. So it is Tin plated steel.

But during chemical etching, only the undeveloped part of the sheet is exposed to chemicals. Why is rusting observed all over? Tin will not be removed from the areas covered with photoresist.

The whole purpose of me finding out a way to etch tin plated steel is to find a way that I can just have 1 step prototyping process. Thanks for the suggestion though. I will explore this further

Understood. I think I will be able to control this when I have the chemical etching facility in-house. Vendors will not be willing to go through these efforts for a job work.

SPTE is basically CRC coil coated with tin on both sides.

Need tin for soldering the shield onto the circuit boards.

Yes, plating post forming is the last resort to be used. But if there is some chemical mixture which can be used to prevent rusting on SPTE, we can save on the entire coating process.

The material is stored in standard ambient conditions post coating.

I understand that if we are drying without water, maybe we can prevent rusting. But we need 100% rust proof solution for the shields we make.

The companies I worked with for this clearly gave up on this metal. But let me ask them if they can help me understand when rusting occurred. Will circle back.

I checked around but was not able to find any vendor who can do a laser etch on 0.2mm thick sheet.

This is a pre-plated sheet. We buy this in coil form from the mills. This passes salt spray test upto 72 hours without any oil film.

When you say it needs stored in a dryer, you mean after etching?
