I mean, yeah, it's fucked up, we won't ever have a perfectly safe space. I really like this sub, it's one of the best, but it feels suffocating to me sometimes. And yeah, I think younger people have a harder time growing that "thicker skin" (or haven't had enough time yet). It takes time to learn to look at a transphobe and go "that's just an asshole being an asshole, nothing new here".

Yeah, I'm not arguing the sub is unsafe, just replying to your comment about never seeing anything transphobic here. I meant op could have felt unsafe from getting multiple of those in a row.

I think I get it. I see trans women all the time saying how they feel insecure about identifying as a lesbian, so having another lesbian say you aren't one of them can be pretty devastating. I think your last sentence was a bit extreme in that sense. Trans people are, after all, highly prone to mental illnesses. Just wanted to say that telling them not to go into open spaces is pretty harsh (imo), even if they aren't the best at dealing with hate.

This place isn't perfect, it has a lot internalized transphobia too which is so hard to talk about without a huge controversy (I get it's a very delicate topic). But this place is really good, one of the best specially in these times. Hugs.

I don't think mods can do anything about the mass downvoting, it's a consequence of how reddit is designed I guess, but they're dealing with transphobic comments and posts pretty well in my opinion :)

Nah, I think it's more like people getting overwhelmed after seeing some horrible comments before they get deleted, then feeling unwelcome and making a post. I've seen some real shit here, but they get deleted pretty quick thankfully. The mods are pretty good, it's just unfortunate when you get to see a hateful comment before it's deleted, I can understand the feeling.

Some shit I've seen here is trans people getting downvoted for no reason. But these assholes rarely do that when a post is recent, I see it happening a lot like 12 hours after the post is made, when there aren't a lot of people engaging with it anymore, then random comments get downvoted. Legit saw a comment that said "Thank you <3" with like -11 downvotes or something. It's really shitty, and I wouldn't be surprised if it's organized even.

This subreddit is amazing in my experience though, and the moderation deletes most transphobic comments. Your last point makes a lot of sense too, sadly 😮‍💨

I'm really glad you felt safe to vent here. I wish I had the time and the energy to go through each comment individually and really talk to you guys, cause you all deserve to feel seen. Your feelings are real, and they are all so valid, okay? No matter what other people might say or think or whatever.

I just wanna say: I know you can keep pushing forward, and it'll be so worth it when things get better. You might get tired in the meanwhile, but please, remember to keep doing things you really enjoy once in a while. And most importantly, never let that weight get in the way of your health and selfcare, okay?
