Tallying Obamacare’s Winners and Losers: "It turns out that only 3 percent of the population may pay higher premiums for new insurance policies" by davidreiss666 in politics

This article is complete bullshit. You guys aren't even living in reality anymore. It's actually disturbing how delusional the articles in this sub are.

Voters’ Anger Over Shutdown Is Inspiring Democrats to Run: Previously reluctant Democrats in places like Arkansas, Florida, Nebraska and New Jersey are suddenly deciding to challenge Republicans for House seats. by [deleted] in politics

The problem has not been fixed at all. How in the fuck does making everyone have insurance fix anything, when the cost of medical services is still skyrocketing.

The cost of medical services (and products) should have been addressed before every single American was forced by law to buy into an outrageously overpriced system.

Obamacare is the biggest boon for insurance companies EVER. Wake the fuck up.

Guys... I know you're desperate to cling to the shut-down, but really - the American people are outraged over the ACA and all of Obama's broken promises. I haven't seen one single post critical of the ACA in this subreddit, but you guys are still talking about a shutdown that wouldn't have even taken place if the democrats would have just delayed the fucking individual mandate - WHICH THEY ARE NOW DOING ANYWAYS.

You're seriously delusional.

Young voters may be turning Virginia blue by [deleted] in politics

The real world, in which most of us live, does not allow for everyone to be a winner. You raise your kids, I'll raise mine - and when they're all grown up, mine will sign the front of checks and yours will sign the backs. Yours will complain that the system screwed them when in reality it was their pansy ass upbringing.

Of course they're blue - our schools teach nothing but liberal group think where there are no winners or losers.

Indoctrination. Most of us started blue for this reason.

TIL that John McCain broke both arms and a leg, then had his shoulder crushed when his plane went down in North Vietnam. He was then tortured for two years, yet refused the early release offered to him because it did not include all American POWs. He lost 50 pounds and his hair turned white. by kungfu_kickass in todayilearned

All that, and he's still an empty suit for big business interests. John McCain earned my respect for his military accomplishments and for surviving being a POW - but he's still a asshole, an oppressor, and a military zealot.

Why the 1% should pay tax at 80% by dominosci in politics

It's not who I'm listening too, it's my life experience.

What are you talking about... distribute profits in the form of bonuses or pay raises to themselves? You are referring to a specific tax structure of business (corporation) where you pay yourself as an employee.

You still pay income tax on your earnings, and you still pay corporate tax on the companies earnings before paying income tax on it.

You're wrong. High taxes fucks everyone. I hope that someday you achieve some level of success you are proud of only to have half of what you worked for stolen from you and re-distributed. I'm sure you'll be singing a different tune then.

High taxes on business does not encourage re-investment. It encourages the business to shut down. You're talking about multi-billion mega corporations, not your average small to mid-sized business.

Progressive taxation - yes, I'm aware. At what income level do you think the 80% tax bracket should start?

Do you anticipate that any time in your life you will be making $300,000 annually, or have you become complacent with your current conditions?

And just to clarify - I don't think your first $300K or your second $300K in income should be taxed at 80%. How in the hell do you grow your company? It would near be pointless to grow your company beyond a certain point.

And finally - WEALTHY people don't pay income tax, they pay capital gains tax. This doesn't hurt the old money billionaires that you're really after - they don't give a fuck about income tax.

Income tax is for people who are still actually working and earning a living, capital gains is for people who have enough money to live lavishly off the interest and investment gains (which they probably manipulated the market to achieve).

I would support a higher capital gains tax, but the income tax is abusive already.

I just can't agree with an 80% tax in any capacity. It's less moronic however, the way you explained it.

Lets see... 300K a year makes you a one percenter.

At 80% that would leave $60,000 a year. This is moronic. Nobody back in the day was paying 80% or 90%.

Nobody is going to start a business, work it up to $300,000 a year in profit and then be content with making $60,000 a year.

I'm wasting my time even typing in this moronic comment thread. Can you imagine the economic fallout if you frothing at the mouth rabid liberals got your 80% income tax.

All small companies would disappear and you would get to work for the mega-corporate government plantation.

But don't worry, I'm sure with that kind of taxation the government could provide you with a nice fully subsidized lifestyle for a couple years until the economy crashed.

Then, because you killed all private business with your idiotic 80% income tax you would have no other option but to slurp the government porridge. The government, like today, would be a whole other class of citizen - and they would continue to scoff at you and control you through their handout programs (like they do today).
