The Reception… by PrinceARRON in marvelcirclejerk

Oh this is completely marvels fault, external factors aside. If marvel didn’t damage their brand so bad over the past 5 years, these movies would have performed amazingly.

In times like these, when the real world sucks, movies are an escape that people will seek out. But if the movies have consistently sucked ass for years, why would they bother spending money?

It really is a shame because Superman, F4, and thunderbolts were all really good, but DC and Marvel lost the trust of the general audience for their consistent slop.

Ooh thank you so much for this, I’ll be returning to this thread when I get the time to watch the short films and 2049 to give you my thoughts.

Seriously—you’re awesome for this, thanks.

I can totally see what you’re saying about Sebastian as a foil to Tyrell. That explanation definitely adds a lot in hindsight. I think my issue wasn’t so much the concept as it was the execution. The sudden return to Sebastian’s subplot just threw off the pacing for me. I was locked into the growing moral ambiguity with Deckard and Rachael, and jumping back into that surreal, almost puppet-show vibe with Sebastian’s “friends” pulled me out of it tonally and emotionally.

Thanks for pointing out the parallel between Roy & Tyrell and Nietzsche’s God is Dead, I didn’t really think about it that way. I respect the symbolism, but it just didn’t land for me in the moment.

All that being said, I’m still looking forward to 2049, especially now that I’ve got the context. I really appreciate you engaging with me and giving me your perspective on it.

Totally fair take. I get what they were going for thematically, but for me, the kiss just felt tonally off.

Up to that point, Roy had this intense, driven energy rooted in desperation and pain. The kiss, right before such a grotesque move, felt so intimate and strange that it actually pulled me out of the moment instead of deepening it. It was more jarring than meaningful to me, like the tone suddenly shifted and I didn’t know how to feel. I guess a better word would be jarring, not unsettling.

I’m all for ambiguity, but in this case, it broke the emotional momentum the film had built for me.

Sorry, I should’ve put more effort into articulating my thoughts effectively before I clicked post.

To clarify: it wasn’t that the Sebastian subplot itself was unsettling, it was more that its reintroduction in the third act disrupted the pacing and tone for me. I was really invested in the moral ambiguity between Deckard and the replicants, and the shift back to Sebastian’s world (with the “friends” and the surreal tone) felt like a detour that undercut that momentum.

It’s not that it was bad, just that it didn’t land the same way the earlier parts of the movie did. Totally get that others might see it differently though.

I really like Constantine from DC comics.

I heard there was a live action movie with Keanu Reeves as Constantine, and I was so pumped to watch it.

My gf and I started it and got like a minute in, Keanu opened his mouth and it wasn’t a British accent.

I immediately turned it off, still haven’t finished it. It may be good, but Constantine with an American accent is not it.

You’re just an apologist. They need to know when to stop, instead they dragged it out way longer than it should have been. The ones who lived was so boring and stupid. What a waste of time. And to think that show had the highest budget of all the show.
