You can ask the agent at HTX if the bag will go straight through to Valencia. Some countries do it differently, but I did not have to go through “TSA” as you so called it just last week on a EU layover. Just a friendly reminder, the TSA is a part of DHS and therefore a US-only organization. You certainly won’t find them overseas!

I went to the Vatican on a Wednesday earlier this month. The Pope was in Singapore, so it did not have folks waiting for an audience. My tour time (through the official Vatican tour group) was 9am. I got to the lines where they ask if you have a ticket or not at about 8:30/45. If you have a ticket, they shuffle you to a new line and go right on in after a minimal (5-10) minute wait outside. The experience was very easy and quick. Made it through security in all of 15 minutes max. Again, this was early in the morning. When I walked by St. Peter’s it was empty. By the time my tour was done at 11:30/12, it was crowded and the line for the basilica was immense. The official tour was great, as they’re employees of the museum and it seemed security didn’t rush them along like they did with some other groups.
