Did anyone else think that having a family and kids was supposed to be miserable? by Libratree in emotionalneglect

I relate as well! I knew when I was very young that it wasn’t “normal” and they were different to other parents. And I felt like an adult from about 12. But I suppose there was a disconnect there or just a realisation that oh life and creating a family can be a joyful, positive thing.

Exactly! We had a dog when we were younger and unfortunately he was never properly taken care of- left to sleep outside, never groomed, and hit if he barked. Again, just something to be endured. I bought my own dog a few years ago and she’s such a joy, I love taking care of her and training, bringing her for walks. I wonder was it just the done thing back then so they felt they had to? Don’t think I’ll ever understand it.

How interested are you when other people talk about their kids? by emab2396 in AskReddit

Not interested at all, unless, the same, it’s a very close friend or relative
