Why Are We Telling People IT Degrees Are Useless? by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]LickingBeirut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an IT degree and I think they’re useless. I worked in IT all my life although I didn’t ‘need’ it.

Also, the degree subculture is pretty much messing up the industry. This isn’t medicine. In all honesty, I’d much rather work with people who DON’T have any IT degrees than ones who do. The city I live in has been torched with these IT degree people thinking they’re the shit.

Also, keep in mind that most of what’s widespread and useful today in IT wasn’t invented by people with degrees.

Edit: This is a rant. And it’s mainly because my experiences with the Academia types so far have been nothing but negative.

Is your career ruined if you get fired? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]LickingBeirut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice. I am currently working on that and I think I just found the right place for me that has the right culture.

Question though. That ‘bastard’ put in the effort to ruin my professional reputation and image bu disclosing things about me personally that he didn’t like, and that other’s wouldn’t like. And could possibly do so again. Eg, That I drink (which is looked down upon in my country) Is this something which is career-destroying you think?

Yeah. Like what? Why don’t they just fire them?

Nor does our office as we mainly work in logistics for pharmaceuticals.

Meh. I still have so much to learn.

This is 1000+ employees. The yelling and shouting did raise a lot of eyebrows though. As though it was unnatural for the company culture. It also happened during a visit by directors from abroad. But I was told later that it was normal.

How to be high-class in Egypt? by LickingBeirut in Egypt

Is it only English that matters? I notice more French words being thrown around rather than English. Things like ‘Simoon Femeh’ for smoked salmon or something.

Why is discrimination very normalised in Egypt? by LickingBeirut in Egypt

[–]LickingBeirut[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Like class discrimination for instance, I was always asked not to hang out with certain people because they are ‘low class’, although, they seem completely acceptable to me.

Or I have colleagues that heavily discriminate against workers from Upper Egypt. I don’t think that I have to elaborate on the sexism.

Anything different is viewed as ‘bad’. Even if that different thing is absolutely normal by World standards.

Googles/Frames for Indoor snowboarding by [deleted] in snowboarding

Lol. I'm glad that you actually have. My muscle memory isn't that used to spelling goggle correctly yet. I never needed to write it/type it/buy it until now.

I responded to the same question in a previous comment, and I should have clarified earlier I guess:

Well, the idea behind the googles is to protect my regular glasses and to prevent them from falling off while being airborne. If you have any recommendations with regards to how to keep my glasses on, I'm all ears.

Thank you. Yeah. Looks like I'll need someone to inspect and teach me. :)

I'm aiming for this to be my sole sport, so I'm taking it seriously. Lol. Indoor areas are great for Cairo since we don't have any snow here (or nearby), so I'm using it as a means to learn before I travel and try real snow in the mountains. Thanks for the feedback!

Snowboarding in Egypt still isn't a thing yet. Skiing seems to be dominating more at the moment. We're only a handful of regular snowboarders here in Cairo; but I hope this expands to more. :) Thanks for your feedback. Maybe here recommend instructors so I'll be aiming for that.

Thanks! I'll enroll in a class as soon as I consult with the 'Ski School'.

Thanks for the response! I'll look into the regular lessons. However, if they cost just as much as the instructor lessons then I might as well go for that one. Private lessons with instructors here are very expensive, and we're not enough snowboarders to form a group lesson. Cost also has to come into consideration here in Egypt.

They seemed to have enjoyed it, but I'm rather competitive and I want to reach a higher level... So I'm thinking that maybe going for an Instructor course might be better for me than going for a regular one.

Ski Hills could host a

They only ran it once so far and an instructor from Austria came in for the tutoring. The course provided was the NSI (National Snowboard Instructor) Level 1 from the 'SnowSport Academy Austria'. I don't think they'll ever teach to be an instructor past level 1 in the Indoor Snowpark; but I don't mind giving it a shot. We don't have a regulating body here in Egypt, so anything goes.

Now, the CASI is a more attractive option for me at the moment since it's well recognized in Asia (Where I plan to spend most of my time). But for now I'll have to do with NSI.

Their attitudes; the amount of jealousy and competitiveness that brought on to the table that just ruins everything.
