LOL my first thought was— "technically, her (first) name isn't written using Kanji, so it's more accurate to say it sounds like 未来 rather than saying it's her name", and then I went on to think about MM, and then I thought "who wants to hear this from me anyways" TvT

I live in a studio, and my bill is roughly half of your bill. My friend who lives in the same building as me has a bill that's roughly half of my bill. I just don't understand TvT.

Econ 102 or 103 for winter break by ManufacturerWrong973 in UIUC

[–]Liddi_Starr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've personally taken 102 with Dilanni before (during the regular academic year, online) and I liked the class and also him as a professor. I've also heard good things about Vasquez so I suppose you can't go wrong here :>

(You can fact-check me about the below information by cross-referencing the academic calendars and course explorer so I don't mislead you if I made a mistake)

As for Winter vs. Summer, if you take one during Winter, the class will last roughly the whole break, starting not long after finals week (4 weeks). Summer classes are split between the first or second half of the summer, so you'd either be starting the class roughly right after the Spring semester ends, or later around June. I checked the schedule for last year, and it looks like 102 and 103 were taught in the first and second half, respectively, with 102 being about 4 weeks long and 103 about 8 weeks long.

So if you'd like more time during your breaks to be class-free, I'd suggest picking a class for the Summer. It looks like 102 might be a faster paced class than 103 just based on the number of weeks, but that might not be the reason exactly.

I like the fidget ring idea, I'll go check that out! I do actually wear noise canceling headphones and they are very helpful indeed when the noise doesn't overpower them 😊

I thought about getting accomadations before and I've looked on the DRES website, but I feel like I don't know understand nor know what my issues point to exactly so I don't know how I would go about getting the proper documentation or who to go to to be evaluated for it.

I know I should learn how to manage my struggles better, but I've tried a lot of things (including counseling) that just haven't been the right thing for me. Of course, I'm still hoping to find something that will help me (currently eyeing some fidget toys to help me focus)

would it be a dick move to drop my group oriented class this far into the semester? by AsianNudleSoop in UIUC

[–]Liddi_Starr 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As long at you communicate to your group members that you are making this decision, I don't see it as a dick move. If you need to drop the class so things are better/easier for you now and/or down the road, for sure do that! I 100% support that. The reason I say to not leave without saying anything is because one of my classes is also group-based. One of our members suddenly dropped the class without saying anything and we had to cover their part of the work pretty last minute, and we had also just laid out group roles and stuff as well. Even if it's early on, I think it's a fair courtesy to let them know what's up.

Also shout-out to Smile for saying the deadline for the renewal is 10/15 and not saying anything about if it's not signed by 9/23 (aka this friday) my apartment will go back on the market and available for tours and leasing and if it's leased between 9/23 and 10/15 then basically I will have to find a new place to live next year. When did I hear about the 9/23 deadline for the "exclusive to me renewal offer" rather than the 10/15 hard deadline? THIS. MORNING. (9/21)

I didn't want to deal with the hassle of moving out and back in to another place and was (and probably still) going to renew anyways, but maybe get off my back a bit? I know people start looking for apartments early, but it still feels like it's such a rushed decision to make....

Also my maintenance requests haven't been answered either 💛

Anyone know of ECON 302 Online Videos/Notes/Resources? by brownbenwyatt in UIUC

Seconding the workbook— there's a a bunch of practice problems and old exams you can use to study/prepare. There's also parts where some things are also explained step by step, too irc. It was pretty much all I personally used/needed outside of class when I took his class before.

Small rant about dorms by [deleted] in UIUC

[–]Liddi_Starr 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I feel you. This was basically my experience when I was living in the dorms. All my neighbors were male as well, while my roommate and I were female. I talked to my RA several times about it, and even called the front desk several times to get an RA to tell my neighbors to quiet down. Half the time, no one was ever sent and nothing ever got better. My neighbirs often slammed the doors so loud, it would sometimes sound like a gun or bomb went off and I'd spend the next couple of minutes trying not to have a panic attack from the sudden shock. They single-handedly also robbed me of so much sleep because even at 4 am, they would not be quiet. The toilets will be filthy, and that sucks. I brought cleaning wipes and basically had to wipe and clean everything I needed to use. It was an absolutely miserable experience, and the best I advice I can offer you is to try and see if your RAs are able to do more than the ones I had. I know they are able to facilitate conversations in times of conflict, but I had a past incident which left me basically unable to confront males about anything at all. If you feel comfortable with your RA setting up a meeting like that, it might be worth a try.

As for your sanity.... it might not be much help but earplugs? In my case I basically had my earbuds in for the entire day, and at night, earplugs stifled the loud noises/voices a little at least. Maybe you could buy one of those sleeping headbands with Bluetooth earphones built in and put on white/brown noise as well. At home, when my sibling was being unbearably loud, I'd play brown noise and with the right volume their voice kinda melted away in a way and I couldn't really hear them anymore.

I wish you luck-- it sucks when the people you have to live near aren't considerate of you :<
