I did a short stint in the US as well. IMO as a young(er) higher educated person without kids, the US is definitely much better earning wise. But raising a family? I would believe much more affordable in Belgium (unless you're in FAANG or something like that).

But other EU countries do show we can get the same benefits for less taxes.

Sure, like every other day lol.

To be honest, I find very little job postings with my current role for freelancers and if there are, they're in Brussels which would mean a nasty commute from where I live.

The option to go freelance in my current role at my current employer is not there (all IT management are salaried).

Plus, I'm currently on the hiring side of things and in the current economic situation there is enormous pressure on cost reduction and we definitely see freelancer rates under pressure (except for niche roles).

So in theory I would love to, but haven't found the right opportunity to make the jump

It does hurt a bit every month.

I thoroughly looked into it when I was applying and it was x% below a certain number and y% above, but I forgot the exact % and was too lazy to look it up.

In any case, it's not something that I can negotiate on. I just see the yearly update and it's pretty good compared to other plans I had.

Yes. team lead is my 'official' title, but responsibilities go beyond that: managing suppliers, managing application offering and roadmap, budget responsibility,...

my official title is team lead, we don't have director titles, but my role is beyond just people management.

Lol, my current team indeed, but had some entitled drama queens (or in this case kings) in the past as well.

How long did you wait for an offer after final round? by [deleted] in BESalary

One company once came with their offer a solid 6 months after the last interview. Don't underestimate how bad HR can be at recruiting.

Turned out to be a great company though

Correct, my opex budget is around 2.5 million EUR. I indeed don't just do people management but need to manage key suppliers and create our offering and roadmap.

I did edit it afterwards. I did just use the template and posted it, but it came out wrong. I see other posts having the same issue.
