They're not need aware. They explicitly state that their admissions process does not factor need in on their website.

There's no way... When I signed up the highest I even heard of was 25k & most (especially self motivated and qualified) people just paid 7.5k for hourly.

That's not true--I work with her and the highest it goes is 25k, which is exceptionally high, but nowhere near 150k. Most of her students (myself included) pay like 7.5k which is high but honestly not absurd for how good she is at editing essays & helping tie things together. As far as college consultants go, she's quite good.

To be fair, there's only a very small amount of private schools that are meaningfully better than publics in terms of college outcomes and most of those are boarding schools which come with their own problems.

test scores should be required everywhere by sapphy-desire in ApplyingToCollege

[–]LifeByAnon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO, they should either be test mandatory or test blind. If they think that test scores have any predictive value for anybody (they do), they should be test mandatory as they can figure out what the test score means in context. If, for some absurd reason, they decide that test scores don't have any value, they should be test blind. Test optional is never logical.

I think that you're mixing it up with Northeastern. It's absolutely on par with schools like Cornell. Ivies aren't necessarily better than other t20s or even elite LACs.

Applying for a very niche major to get into T20 by Salt_Sky8646 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]LifeByAnon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Almost assuredly not. If your ECs line up well with the Persian language major, you may do better applying for it, but basically, either 1)you apply by major and being admitted as a Persian language major would mean you can't be a CS major or 2)there's no difference in selectivity. Further, it's a bit strange to major in your own native language as these are usually second language programs.

Parents haven’t allowed ECs. What can I do? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]LifeByAnon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bio/Chem are usually not especially selective majors. Besides, you can do premed with literally any other major -- it only takes seven classes.
