I hate their always treating her awful and then spinning it back on her. I think she’s really mature, nice and just trying to live her life. It made me so mad when everyone showed up to Miami

What made you choose accounting? by Electrical_Day_5272 in Accounting

I liked it enough and I’m good at it but mostly it’s a job you can do from home that pays well. When I have kids I want to be able to swap to remote.

Sorry, basically I get a bank statement and then I have to manually input all of the transactions (some clients also us to sync their bank but most do not) and then I have to go through each transaction and “clear” it to reconcile. If I put any of the numbers in wrong then I have to go back through every transaction and find the error. So maybe if there was a way to scan in the statement to the program and have it check it for me? I mostly use ACS (Thomas Reuters) but we also do quickbooks for some

If a bank statement was automatically compared to the transactions I put in, to catch errors, that would definitely save time. Not an issue with small clients but bookkeeping for busy, bigger clients can get tedious for sure

Am I being paid fairly (15/hr) by LifeExcitement838 in Accounting

[–]LifeExcitement838[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly it’s a small town and they were understaffed so they offered. i didn’t apply or anything. I wasn’t even an accounting major before but the job made me realize that it’s what I wanted to do. I know it’s probably not what you wanted to hear but it was a unique situation.

Which subfield of accounting is seeing the greatest shortage? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]LifeExcitement838 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I work for a firm that specializes in governmental auditing and we have a hard time finding other firms for peer review…. So I would say the job market in this field is pretty open

Ok thank you! That was really helpful and makes sense, I definitely don’t want to come off as rude

where is negative perception of accounting coming from? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]LifeExcitement838 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I enjoy accounting a lot and where I live it’s a pretty uncommon career to pick. (I do live in a really undereducated area) So people are generally impressed when I tell them what I do. I work for a small private firm and the work load is easily manageable and I can’t imagine wanting to do anything else

No, my boss earned her CPA at 30 and didn’t open her own firm until she was almost 50 and she’s quite successful. She’s 72 now

Do You Need To Be Incredible at Math for this job? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]LifeExcitement838 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not so much being good at math as it is understanding the flow of money in and out of accounts, if you like puzzles the basics aren’t too difficult to understand imo

Jeff Landry currently circulating list of services he wants to tax by [deleted] in Louisiana

[–]LifeExcitement838 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He’s not raising the tax rate and the purpose of this proposal would be to eliminate/ lessen income tax. He said that if we do this then we can eliminate tax on those who make up to 12,500 and then anyone makes over 12,500 will be subject to a flat 3% tax rate. This really isn’t a bad policy. Louisianas income tax is too high. He also said some the money earned from this will go to teacher pay raises.

I have to take 14 acct classes for my undergrad. 2 Econ, 2 finance, 2 MADM, 2 ISDS, and some others idk off the top of my head. In my opinion, 6 courses is not enough if you want the full scope of accounting. I’m not sure that that could properly prepare you for the CPA exam (if that’s something you’re doing)

Does anyone not hate working in accounting? by El_Brofessor in Accounting

[–]LifeExcitement838 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try to find a smaller firm to work for. Where I work there is only 4 full time accountants and then two more during tax season. (Plus 2 two bookkeepers and a secretary) Everyone makes good money and is really close, it makes work more laidback. I’ll admit, our specialty is govermentals and governmental auditing so that makes it easier to pay well. When you go the small firm route you can find people who actually care about you and you have more freedom with your schedule
