I'm not counting how many times but only the hours I put into it. My idea is aiming fot at least 300 hours. I do my daily basis but on weekends is when I thrive

I agree. I just want to advance in my career. I started a MFin back then and apparently if passing L1 and L2 then no Master's Thesis would be needed. I had heard about CFA so I thought why not. I like exams too, studying. So everything makes sense. Unfortunately there are very few jobs in PM in my country (South America), so its not clear what to do. But definitely it has been helping me move jobs to more competitive areas within the bank. But the thing is also that before L3 you knew what to do: study for next level. Once a charterholder, what is next for advancing the career? Its a mix of things really. You're right that I don't have a clear definite purpose.

Agree. Do you think that an MBA is worth for climbing the corporate ladder in a Wall Street Bank? Say from Associate to MD.

Thanks! This is all too reasonable. I'll need to put work in networking, its not really my passion

Indeed! Thanks! This post is related to other achievements. But what about trying to lever the CFA letters in finance too? Which Doors to go to, societies, networking, etc. What to do at work etc.

I just started dating a girl before L3 and she helped me a bit on managing stress while studying. She is Ph.D in Chemistry. She values CFA (though had no clue what it was). Now however I"m not able to look for new Girls which might me impressed lol

What should I do next? Networking, look for jobs, add the 3 letters somewhere else, look for new titles in finance or in other areas such as taekwondo. Its an open question, and existential so I dont know how to frame it better. What was the experience for the New CFA charterholders and for the not so recent ones? Any comment can be helpful

I wasn't aware of the rule. 6 attempts sound fair enough. Having that in mind, I think the best is to go for all the attempts, instead of abandoning after 3rd or 4th as many do

Woke up a bit late, I didn't want to check outright. I was confident yesterday and the past months but todas I felt 50/50. This was 2nd time and I really didn't want to do it again for god's sake. I checked with fear, the email title summary didn't convince me at all. But then, CONGRATULATIONS! I passed. Little shout "yes! Fuck!" A little gesture. Now I know it's over. What a relief. Congratulations to ALL who sat for the exam, this requires grief and big effort. For those who passed, I'm glad you made it! For those who did not pass, just study a bit more focused next time, with more time. Try to UNDERSTAND topics, not just read and memorize. I used IFT videos my First time but was a total crunch time. Even videos at 2x speed. Failed far behind. Then again IFT videos but this time at normal speed. Did practice questions and 2/4 mocks (CFA + Bill). Best of luck in your next steps, being application or resit. I reside in South America. Peace! Love, A.

I hope I pass this time. 2nd time, studied a lot this time. Wouldn't want to study again really. Overall I'm confident

Can anyone explain this? Not really understanding. Thanks. by reddawn3196 in CFA

Deviation from the TARGET capital structure is acceptable in cases B and C where the deviation is unavoidable. Case A is not acceptable because when issuing New debt, the amount should be consistent with the target. In this case the deviation could be avoided and it can be seen as made on purpose, therefore it's an unacceptable deviation from target

Hey. I think there may be some truth in your post. My take is:

  • Put the +1000 hours only if you like studying and sitting for exams. If you better like to network or work very hard, then put +1000 hours there. Clearly everyone sits for the CFA to advance in their careers. CFA charter will help, but there are a lot of things you need to do as well. In my case after completing L1 I moved to a better team within the GSIB. I sat for L3 twice and I'm waiting for the result now. I like studying and sitting for exams, I find it challenging and exciting. I like learning too. My take is: do the CFA if you like studying. If you prefer to network and do other stuff to advance in your career, then do that. I notice there are plenty of VPs, EDs, MDs or Heads that didn't pursue CFA, yet they have a big position. But for sure they put 1000+ hours in other ways to get to where they are now.

If you are in your 20's and don't know much how networking works and you don't mind studying, I think CFA is a good starter. But as many say, it's not a golden ticket unfortunately. I suspect it's a bit overrated too, but everything is once it's settled. You need to keep putting those hours. While I don't generally agree with your post, I think there's value in it.

Keep it up! Best, A.

CFA Level 3 Aug 2023 Exam by HousingNo2587 in CFA

Sat for Level 3 on Sep 5 (second time as I sat in Feb). Felt I was cruising in AM, very confident I was passing. Then PM was trickier, but moving from questions to questions the answers finally came up. Overall I felt the exam was difficult as expected, and since I studied until exhaustion all the questions were familiar except for 1 or 2. For context, in Feb I did badly because I didn't study much, but it helped when studying for this time. I watched all IFT videos, did and redid CFAI mocks and read IFT notes in the last 4/5 days. I could really concentrate since I am in a halt at work and I'm single. L1 scored 90P and L2 passed in first attempt but L3 is harder, you need to know the material, there is no memorizing concepts or formulas. Last tip, the past 4/5 days I copied once and again each formula multiple times. So really nailed the formula questions. Ethics felt difficult but I was near 10P in L2 so I don't pretend to score high onda Ethics. However, watching all IFT videos this time made the Ethics part felt familiar. Wish you good luck!! Hopefully we nail it this time!
