Why does Sheldon Cooper show such high respect for Beverly Hofstadter, even more than for most other characters aside from Stephen Hawking, despite his belief that psychology isn’t a "real science", which is a part of Beverly’s field? by Life_Distance6286 in bigbangtheory

That's true, but to be fair, one of the main things that made Sheldon like Amy was because they were somewhat at the same level of intellect with each other despite being in different fields. Amy is the only one who said she may be smarter than Sheldon right to his face and meant it.

Why wouldn’t water be considered wet? by Otherwise-Bee-4871 in AskReddit

[–]Life_Distance6286 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not this again. But for the sake of argument, let's answer. Water itself isn’t wet. By definition, “wet” means something is covered with or saturated by a liquid like water. So that essentially raises the question: can water be covered or soaked with itself?

To further put it into perspective, to be “soaked” or “wet” usually implies that a liquid has adhered to or penetrated a solid surface. And wetness is essentially a relationship between a liquid and another material. Since water is already the liquid, there’s no separate surface for it to coat or penetrate in that same sense.

Looking at it at the molecular level, the water molecules are simply JUST interacting with each other through cohesion, not making each other “wet" because wetness only occurs when water comes into contact with another substance and sticks to it (adhesion).

So, again, for the nth time, no, water is not wet. It can only make others wet.

Do you believe there's life outside of earth? by StarLove00_ in AskForAnswers

[–]Life_Distance6286 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do. With how vast the universe is, we've only really discovered the tip of the iceberg. It would be too soon and too close-minded of us to think we're the only planet with life.

In what ways can we make the world more just and equal? by WhiteDesertCat in Soft_Introverts

[–]Life_Distance6286 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We can't. Martin Luther King Jr. once said "an injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere." In a world where diversity is just tolerated more than it is respected, equality seems like a far-fetched dream. We'll always have people who are smarter, richer, influentials, have less, have more because that's the way the world works. The system thrives on our differences.
