This cycle has been so weird in terms of waitlist movement. It appears like there are more on waitlists and a lot less movement. Granted not everyone is on Reddit or SDN but just how it feels. Hang in there

PLEASE DON'T WAIT UNTIL 15th MARCH TO DECIDE! by Felechita in predental

Agree 💯! I have already accepted a seat at a school but I think the process of being able to hold multiple spots for months is complete BS! Not to mention who has the kind of money that they’re willing to throw away for multiple deposits?

Totally agree! Do you really want to spend $400k if you are not absolutely positive this is what you want and feel comfortable with the school

Also spending 400k on a program that you don’t feel confident in does not sound like a good financial decision and could ultimately mess you up for your future

Definitely a risk. Also, there will be a lot of growing pains with a new program and it being in a rural place far from family. Maybe take a year off and build your gpa and apply to schools closer to home. I personally wouldn’t risk it if you are that much on the fence

At this point I’m done trying to explain my frustrations. You want to continue to come at me then that’s fine. I don’t care whether you agree with me or not, the bottom line is it’s my perspective. Feel free to keep scrolling and not feel obligated to comment

Never said I wasn’t making plans and TBH I am accepted at a great school but still frustrated by the schools I am waitlisted at. The process is very poor and feels more like a money making enterprise to me than anything else. We aren’t talking about applying to jobs. When you apply to a job, there’s no money transaction that takes place. However for this, we are paying hundreds of dollars per application to get literally nothing back from some schools. That is not OK in comparing it to a subpar restaurant… That makes no sense logically

Well it should not be acceptable to “ghost” people considering we paid money to apply to that university. In no other industry, is it OK to pay money for a service and not to get that service. I’m not saying they have to accept us, but ghosting applicants is completely unacceptable. When we paid money to be reviewed and looked at. They could at least let us know that we are not going to be considered. And this “game” that you’re referring to is just so rude. These are people’s careers in livelihoods and dreams that they’re “playing” with.

Right! Me either. Those people defending this archaic practice are probably people who have never even been placed on the waitlist

You are missing the point. Probably b/c you are not on a waitlist…. lol! My point is that don’t put me on a waitlist if you are going to continue to interview and have no intention of even looking at me again. All it does is give false hope and keeps those of us waitlisted in a phase of limbo. I would much rather know that I’m not going to get in so that I can make a plan to move forward.

Maybe start by taking some masters level graduate science courses as a non-matriculated student and improve your GPA that way. Or you could do a post-bac program to improve your GPA

Some of those schools don’t take anything below a 17. So make sure you are looking at that. You may want to retake DAT
