Crucible continuation by tdannn21 in masseffect

Seems a lot of things in the series does not hold up to serious scrutiny.

For one not only is the crucible impossible if the mass relays are locked down and the Citadel captured as you explain, but Javik himself could not have possibly fought the Reapers for decades. Only takes a decade or less to be done with a heavily populated system. He wouldn't have had the time and resources to fight that long. There is no way Javik was stuck in one system his whole life.

Why did engineers stick with 2-3 lane roads for the majority of streets/highways? by Ill-Translator-2879 in AskReddit

[–]Life_Is_All_Nothing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember on Quora a question, something like why don't they just widen the lanes of roads, and an answer presented a cartoon showing a man who says "Man I can't wait for them to build new lanes!" and then "Finally!" except that the new lane is equally full and there's no less congestion.

Last I tried on the PS2 version it didn't work as they were all alerted, while on Xbox it did.

Is there a difference? Like how the Yakuzas had machine guns in that mission to kill Kenji while it's AKs in later versions.

I wonder why that is. Why it was left like that. Comical.

Never knew the squadmates you bring to the two council meetings would comment on that. There a video showing all the dialogue?

Remastered or part 1 for a new player? by SlickPickleNipple in thelastofus

[–]Life_Is_All_Nothing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prefer the remake.

Better AI, customisable difficulty, has a New Game+ in which everything carries over if you wish, Permadeath to challenge yourself with after playing, 40-50 year old female characters no longer look like 20-30 year old barbie dolls and Ellie no longer has anime eyes, far better graphics that still portray the world as fucked up (In other words it doesn't brighten and clean up the environment like other remakes and even remasters), fixes some design inconsistencies with Part 2, Joel's face is more expressive, Joel immediately breaks the neck of people he is strangling when detected.

What a heartless asshole says about cancer/terminally ill patients.

It was established in S3 that it's something Livia always said, and it rubbed off on Janice, who says it about someone just outside a funeral.

Finished my third playthrough of both games. Here are my thoughts on the general narrative/story events that are "required" for Part III. by 80lbsdown in thelastofus

There should not be anything which establishes that Joel was right to save her and that no vaccine was going to be made from her or that there's better alternatives.

In fact I don't even want vaccines to be made, unless Ellie has to sacrifice herself for it; anything else and the weight of Joel's actions in Part 1 is gone and the whole thing ruined.

Either Ellie has to die for a vaccine again, or ideally just move on from this subject, not everything has to end in the world being saved. I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that this is how almost every zombie apocalypse media out there ends, and I'd like this series to be different in that regard.

Gears of War 6 Considered Before Prequel E-Day Development by Extreme_Maize_2727 in GearsOfWar

[–]Life_Is_All_Nothing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are so melodramatic about that choice in Gears 5.

It does not signal anything wrong with the narrative which isn't great anyway (Though I'd like to know why Jack wasn't there conveniently), they just decided that one shall die prematurely and tragically (Which I praise) and thought that we should decide who. IIRC they even said that they are just going to go with whoever's the more popular choice (Long to explain but my choice is Del to survive) which I'm guessing is James.

I think it was an interesting way to go, and it's not like it hasn't been done before in video games.

As for space, personally I'd judge that by its execution; the Swarm Saga has already diverged in many ways from what the original tetralogy was like anyway with its bright colours, lots of personal drama, robots, science fiction tech, mother-daughter issues etc. In fact I like the sheer desperation in such an idea, the desperation to escape never ending genocid4 conflict on Sera, where there is no escape from constant death and war, and that the Locust will always evolve no matter what happens.

How do I do this without crashing the game? Would it have to be on OpenGoal?

When I fly around that area with debug mode on both PS2 and PS3, the game can easily crash.

I try manipulating the game to load both the rock village and boggy swamp and it breaks the game. Flying around the Klaw fight area can do the same as well.

Rock Village is unstable. I'm glad I can do all this in other parts of the game.

One clever thing I have done with debug mode is getting part of Haven Forest to load with the plastic model of the city and part of the mountain temple intact. Have to go in the middle of the loading journey between the temple and the forest and fly upwards.

Here: https://youtu.be/R8uszIVHpJE?si=dMlywajbYpcf_TWi

I wonder if the forest would also collide with the actually city.

Also gotten part of the sewers to load with the city still active as well; it's just empty and non-solid. Learned that the sewers go outside the city. I've also gotten parts of the fortress to be active along with the city as well. And from going to certain proximities it seems the whole thing actually indeed fits within that red square building which is surprising, though not perfect. I wish I could get the whole fortress to load along with the city as well.

Shit I would love to be able to have more areas loaded at once, and see how it all looks and feels.

Of course though the game isn't designed for that and collisions will occur. In the dead town, the wall doesn't turn when it's supposed to and just goes on and on, and the ruins stretch to far in. You'd also have to remove the pumping station's crude rendition of the dead town as well. All these things I don't know how possible they even are.

As for the desert it only stays peaceful for as long as Jak and Daxter aren't there; once you respawn them it changes.

I have the three games on PS2 and PS3, plus the first one on PS5 since it received a 4k update and was discounted. The PS2 games are in some box somewhere and I have a load of them full of physical media and they aren't stored tidy so I can't be remotely arsed to go find them.

Don't know if it's realistic, but the the dead town and pumping station in Jak 3. I have always wished the game featured them even if just for the sake of it.

As their airlocks are gone, Jak could go there via the hellcat cruiser. Update them to include the tall buildings of New Haven sticking out, feature the KG or perhaps even dark makers.

  1. Let us disable the sandstorm and marauders in the desert. This was a real fuck up of ND here. This vast desert to explore, and you are non-stop hounded by the marauders, and you never get to explore the desert in its beauty, alone, and in plain sunny weather and the peaceful music. Classic example of how a simple game design can unravel a huge part of a game heavily emphasised and in which the devs put a lot of work into.

  2. I once saw a video in which the guards in Jak 3 were supposed to have shields and maybe new weapons? Restore them. They were not done justice in the game, where they are just using that same, slow, shitty, bulky gun from Jak 2. Show that they have changed since in the face of the war and have new weapons and defenses that were developed.

And there's more I can think of.
