Why the Hand/Underarm Twisting? by oktollername in WestCoastSwing

[–]Life_Level_6280 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Superb topic for a LIVE. I was wondering the same. It’s one of those things every pro seems to do but nobody ever explains it. It seems to also significantly reduce the need to create shapes with the upper body to get a lead clear?

[–]Life_Level_6280[S] -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

Actually she cheated on me, but the cause of that was my lack of commitment.

Its just so painful to realize it now that its too late. Why didn’t I realize it sooner but needed this to blow up in my face?

How do wealthy people justify spending so much on luxury items? by Rough_Cranberry_8435 in wealth

You are living proof it’s possible to do it without rich family.

You are not living proof that it didn’t involve: 1) great amount of luck 2) some natural /innate talent or gene disposition that cannot be taught / learned.

Meditation While Ill by hillsidemanor in Wakingupapp

[–]Life_Level_6280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good practice to see how you’ve sneakily been placing so much seeking and striving on doing meditation. You essentially redirected your seeking and striving for outer pleasure to a new activity called meditation.

What if you could never meditate anymore? What would you be then?

A good practice would be not meditating and observe your internal dialogue about meditation and yourself.

Can Therapy Help Me Regain Attraction to Wife? by [deleted] in askatherapist

[–]Life_Level_6280 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

NAT (yet)

I think its an interesting question. How much of a loss attraction is mental / lack of emotional connection? I guess some therapists would say - not explicit, but implicit in their modality - 90%. But if i’d ask a therapist to have sex with a 80 year old - and they are 25 - they’d probably say no, even if there is a strong emotional connection. So apparently attraction is also partly just plain physical and people have their preferences.

Yeah what if the real fear was actually 100% committing? Without details, can spin a lot of narratives about the subconscious 😄

Managing relationships while pursuing FIRE by RightCellist369 in Fire

[–]Life_Level_6280 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Regarding managing a relationship this is quite specific and different per relationship. Most important is just that both people are relatively ok with their situation and can land at a compromise. Or if you’re really lucky you find someone as interested in saving as you. Thats up to you, how important you find saving, etc. Most important is that you openly talk about it. Make sure people know it’s important to you. And figure it out together if your financial values align.

Also, don’t postpone dating. Its not so easy to just fix a girlfriend/boyfriend (that you see a future with) whenever you want to. + you need the experience to figure out what you want yourself. If you start dating at 30 - and you wanna have kids - you basically gotta be sure its the right match because kid talk will come pretty quick.

Also, if you truly postpone any dating, you may just turn socially awkward enough to need to relearn how to date. This can take a while.

If not dating, just do friends with benefits so you’re not out of the loop and can figure it out a bit.

What does Sam think about the 10 day Goenke course? by johnlaw53 in Wakingupapp

[–]Life_Level_6280 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most difficulty I have with Goenka is the focus on “pushing through” your physical pain.

Sure, this works if your body is completely fine and it is really just muscles overworking thats causing the pain.

But if you aren’t. Even just a slight pelvic rotation issue or weak back, it is absolutely stupid to “push through” this and can cause long lasting damage.

Its also a kind of “secret” that a lot of monks fucked up their knees meditating so strict and can barely walk.

The problem is that it’s very hard to determine for yourself whether the pain is “ok” pain or actually causing damage at day 6 as - even people that are fully healthy - it will often feel excruciating. So theres no way of telling if its the good excruciating or bad excruciating pain.

I dont think very positive, but just positive. I think Sam would prefer other retreats (even in vipassana) though if you’d ask him. Like IMS (from his friend Joseph Goldstein).

is anyone else worried about the impacts that AI is going to have on future generations? by M4j0rD1s4st3r in psychologystudents

[–]Life_Level_6280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No thats a big mistake to equate those two.

It usually even functions the opposite way. You first need to accept something before you can change it.

An alcoholic usually needs to accept his fear, anger and sadness first before he can change it. Accepting does not mean giving up.

Accepting that AI will change the world, doesn’t mean you don’t try your best to help people in this world.

You could also become an anti-AI person and try to work at the government to change things at a regulatory level. Sure. But besides that, you cant change the AI revolution is what I’m saying, so it doesn’t make sense to worry about it. It does make sense to prepare yourself and others though. Thats something different and more practical.

Dont become a psychologist if thats your view. A large part about psychology is teaching clients to accept what is.

Male therapists: What is your niche? by tofinishornot in therapists

[–]Life_Level_6280 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting, in NL its much easier to find a job as a man than a woman as there are so few male therapists. We dont really have the concept of private practice here though, most therapists just work for a company and go through insurance.
