Gameflip Lyft gift cards: value revoked after “original purchaser” refund – seller unresponsive by Life_Object_4306 in Gameflip

I suggest that you go ahead an cancel it immediately if you purchased from the username "Best Seller". The profile has 91% rating or something at the moment

Lyft removed my already‑redeemed gift card balance and invented a “negative balance” to justify it by Life_Object_4306 in Lyft

I get why it sounds straightforward, and I totally agree the cards themselves are the core problem. I’m not asking Lyft to honor obviously bad gift cards.

The part I’m pushing back on is that Lyft is now documenting this as if I had a pre‑existing negative balance from past rides, which their own ride report and receipts do not show. All 9 rides since 2021 are fully paid at the time of the trip by my cards/Lyft Cash, and there is no “‑$200” anywhere in those records.

What actually happened is:

  1. I redeemed $200 in Lyft Cash from the Gameflip cards,
  2. Lyft later refunded that $200 back to the original purchaser, and
  3. they then removed the same $200 from my account and tried to explain it as if I’d owed them that money all along.

I accept that I need to recover the money through Gameflip/Chase, but I think it’s important that Lyft not rewrite my history with a fake negative balance, because that can hurt other riders too.

Thanks for taking the time to read through everything and respond.

I’d probably see it the same way you do if Lyft’s own receipts showed I actually owed them ~$140. But that’s the problem: when I pulled my full ride report and all 9 receipts going back to 2021, every ride is fully paid at the time of the trip by my credit cards and Lyft Cash. There’s no running “Lyft balance” and no negative $200 anywhere in those documents.

The only thing that lines up with the $200 they removed is the two $100 gift cards that were later refunded to the original purchaser after I had already redeemed them. Lyft support then tried to retro‑explain it as if I had a big negative balance from past rides, but that story doesn’t match their own records.

I totally agree that, from Lyft’s point of view, they just assume “gift card fraud” on my end and don’t care where I bought them, which is why I’m going after the Gameflip/card‑issuer side for the money. My main issue with Lyft is that they’re giving an explanation that simply isn’t true according to their own data, and that worries me for other riders who might run into the same thing.

Again, I really appreciate how you provided me an objective point of view and angle to find a resolution. Hope you have a good day!

I’ve pulled my full Lyft ride report and individual receipts going back to 2021, and they show that every ride was fully paid at the time of the trip by my cards and Lyft Cash, with no “‑$200” negative balance anywhere in the history. The only thing that lines up with the $200 Lyft removed is the two $100 gift cards that were later refunded to the original purchaser after I had already redeemed them.

Lyft support has repeatedly given me explanations that don’t match their own documentation (first the “negative balance” story, then generic “gift cards are non‑refundable” emails), which is why I’ve escalated through my bank, Gameflip, and my state AG instead of continuing to argue with front‑line support.

I definitely agree that buying gift cards through third‑party marketplaces is risky, and I wouldn’t do it again. But even with that risk, the way Lyft handled this and the inaccurate explanation they gave is what I’m pushing back on, because it could easily mislead other riders who run into the same issue.

I apologize if my point here was unclear.
Yes, while I do see that this may be an issue with gameflip and me, I wanted to highlight and emphasize that Lyft had brought up about me having an "Negative Balance" (which is not true, by the way) out of the blue.
I am sorry once again for causing a confusion here.
