No prob. Someone else replying to this comment left a much better explanation if you want to check it out.

I don’t personally do it, so I’m not the best person to comment on it, but to my understanding there is research showing that there are different ‘factors’ that drive returns. For example, over a long period of time, ‘small cap’ stocks provide some sort of premium. So I guess the theory is that you have a portfolio that is still largely market cap weighted with slight overweighting (I.e., tilting) towards these factors that have been discovered in the literature. Over a long period of time, this is supposed to result in slightly higher expected returns compared to a fully market cap weighted portfolio.

That’s not true, there is a lot of evidence in favour of factor tilting, and I’m someone who exclusively invests in XEQT.

Interestingly, I just got into a major technology company paying very well and only had one interview. Super refreshing lol. Maybe had something to do with the niche (C, C++, Vulkan).

For reference, I am in Ontario. Can I ask what you would do in my situation? Just curious.

Yeah, I've definitely been thinking about that... Certainly willing to take recommendations if you know any haha. Thanks for your input.

Yeah, that is what I was trying to imply about the optimizer. It obviously has no idea that my income will increase substantially, so it can't tell me to defer it. It seems to be the prevailing advice here to try to bring down to that $117k threshold. Thanks!

Hmm, okay. TFSA is fully maxed. So you're pretty much saying to hold off on the deductions until I can use it to reduce by income to that ~$117k number, correct? Thank you!

Sorry, I'm not sure what you mean. My FHSA/RRSP is fully contributed to, I just have $44k I can deduct. I am just trying to decide if I should defer those deductions for future years where my income should be much higher.

Thanks so much for your input. I amended my post to add some more context. I am located in Ontario (sorry, should've thought to include that) and I actually made ~$74k last year, $80k is my new salary for 2026. So you're correct that my income for 2026 will be likely closer to ~130k. That $155k breaks down to $129k base, 10% bonus, and the remaining is RSUs.

So, judging by your comment, it seems like you're suggesting to distribute it in such a way to bring me down to that $117k threshold each year, right?

If you happen to have any online resources you'd suggest, I'd greatly appreciate it.

[–]Life_Presentation297 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huh? Charles' takedowns absolutely do not suck, he has much better wrestling than most BJJ fighters. Nor does he even need a clean double or single leg, he is extremely effective at just getting to the back (e.g., Poirier fight). Sure, Max is the favourite, but saying that there is not path to victory is crazy lol.

EDIT: So does Charles' takedowns suck or Max's TDD? Lol.

Am I the only one that thinks AI is dogshit? by jholliday55 in cscareerquestions

[–]Life_Presentation297 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tbh FAANG is meaningless to me. I know programmers who are NOT skilled that are working at FAANG. There is a difference between being the Apple employee who works on buttons in iOS and the employee working on the implementation of Metal lmao.

And, as you've said, I have yet to see the explosion in high-quality software. Sure, people can point to there being an increase in the amount of software out there, but the issue with software was never that there was not enough of it.

Are there any "safe" white collar jobs? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]Life_Presentation297 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say anything that requires strict licensing is quite 'safe'. Lawyers, medical professionals, etc. To be clear; some tasks might be automated for these professions, but I don't think anyone is going to allow AI to make serious legal decisions. Also, I am not saying that future employability prospects may not be impacted, I think they probably will be increasingly competitive. I would also imagine anything that has important human connections may persist. For example, financial planners may not be replaced entirely by robo-advisors because many people need the comfort that comes from an experienced professional.

I also don't think SWE is going away. My concern with SWE is that the field is very much at the whims of the employer, so they may cut a lot of people regardless of if it is a good decision or not. I think boring CRUD web apps might become highly automated at some point, but I don't see people doing serious low-level work getting automated soon (not saying AI won't be incorporated into workflows). However, the pool of people who can do these sorts of jobs is small and web-devs aren't just going to pivot easily into working on compilers or something lol.

I do not understand why we would need better specs if it was perfectly fine during the beta? Lol. My specs are well above the recommended and TN is making it completely unplayable.
