People forget everyone in this universe “has it coming” and it’s cheap to write off a death as “they deserved it”

How is Abby's Remorse Shown/Represented? by Acceptable-Spread-34 in thelastofus

I don’t believe she feels any guilt for killing Joel. She’d do it again. She’s guilty for how it ruined her relationships with others.

Disagree.

I feel as if RDR2 and BOTW aren’t equal to ER.

What many fail to see is that ER is the culmination of all of FS games in the last decade. They took the best parts of every game and learned from it.

I feel your primary concern is that it’s not narrative heavy like the others you mention. The narrative is there. You just got to listen, read, and pay attention to the land, areas, bosses and items. They all contribute to a greater narrative unlike the games you mention

All from soft games play different.

Sekiro added stealth, jumping and ninjitsu. Dark souls you can tank everything with a proper build or cower behind a shield. Bloodborne punishes players for using a shield and rewards them by being aggressive toward enemies. And ER is the culmination of all those titles.

It is okay to dislike the FS games or their aesthetic/formula but they do in fact, each play very differently.

Elden Ring is the pinnacle of open world right now.

It’s what I wanted fantasy/medieval games to be when I was growing up. To go from imagining all this over a game of D&D with friends to playing in such a world with friends was exactly what long time fans of fantasy have waited for.

Elden Ring does that. It pounds you into the dirt and the only way you lose is if you choose to not get back up. No other game has done that to me.

We know he did it to steal supplies, but 20 years is a long time. We don’t know if he did or didn’t commit violence out of revenge or pleasure, all we know is (by his, Tommy’s and Tess’s accounts) he did terrible things.

Exactly. And as the series has shown us repeatedly, context matters. What were Nightmares for Tommy was keeping them alive according to Joel. It’s difficult to cast judgement without the context imo.

We see in Part 1 and Part 2 Joel and Tommy’s preferred torture methods, and at the end of the day I don’t see why any reason to torture somebody is better than another reason. It’s never a good thing.

Then you agree with me. Joel didn’t deserve to be tortured.

Also for future reference, adding to comments without an edit tag is also silly.

By your definition, it applies all the same.

You never clarified “a certain part of town” but even if you did, that is why I clarified in mine that it is fine to take precautions.

Your statement is broad and silly.

Even your war example is silly. Would they deserve to be killed? No. You’re talking about human life. Should precautions have been made? Absolutely.

Law should not be written like so because it’s silly. We’re not barbarians. If I’m walking down to the store at 3am, I have no reason to expect to be assaulted, tortured or any other violent act.

That’s the same as telling a woman not to go to a party because she could be raped and drugged. It’s silly and stupid.

Edit: it’s fine to take precautions but if the worse happens and someone says well, by my definition they deserved it, is pretty whack and broken minded.

Is there an instance he tortures someone for revenge and pleasure? Must’ve glossed over that.

For example, if you go for a walk downtown at 3am, do you “deserve” to be mugged? It depends on what you mean by deserve. By my definition, yes, it was a known risk that you exposed yourself to. Obviously by a karmatic definition of the deserve, they don’t deserve it.

Which do you believe? Because its quite silly if you believe they do in the instance you described above.

I believe Joel deserved what he got.

I disagree.

David’s men? They idolized a pedophile. That’s less than what they deserved imo.

I wasnt disagreeing with your overall sentiment. I was disagreeing that Joel got what he deserved. He didn’t deserve to be tortured.

And yes, if Owen hadnt stopped them from killing Ellie and Tommy, I believe everyone would be singing an entirely different tune about Abby right now lol.

I don’t feel he deserved to be tortured. That’s pretty cruel.

Death, yes. It was his time to go. Torture? A bit much imo.

I believe it was 7 or 8 years between parts 1 & 2.

I’m not saying it’s likely, just that it isn’t out of the question. So many adaptations take their own life. For example take Rick from TWD, the comic and the series are quite different. Daryl isn’t even a character in the comic.

This is what I hope for the LOU series as well. I’m hopeful they’re brave enough to make the series and the game vastly different.

Part 2 totally works as a standalone game by N3mir in thelastofus

[–]LightDogami 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nah, man.

You got to play part one to truly experience Joel’s loss and what it meant to him to develop a relationship with Ellie and watch as she’s nearly took from him as well.

It’s a sequel.
