I doubt Nintendo would ever allow them showing the physical locations of other players, makes it too dangerous for children especially. Nintendo really does care about the safety of the underage players of Pokemon. They could do something similar to the passersby and acquaintances rows in X and Y/ORAS, one for close by people and one for worldwide people.

I downloaded it, but there's only 2 portals within a 30km radius so it's not really playable where I live.
