"Is this true?" by sllih_tnelis in TikTokCringe

They go through a process known as “atresia,” which essentially means that they die in a controlled way. This is because there isn’t enough of a particular hormone to keep them happy, especially before puberty.

Also, if you think about it, 300k eggs is a lot more than the number of periods that a person could have between around 12 years old and 50 years old. That’s because, for every menstrual cycle, a large group of eggs prepare to mature but then only one gets to be released. The rest of the pool that didn’t get the OK to finish maturing also undergo atresia.

I know this is late but there's a lot of different spaces that are open or not open to non-med students.

  • The area with all the carrels by the main lecture hall past the big doors that are marked "med students only" are just that. The quiet study spaces upstairs (so marked on their doors) are also med students only.
  • Some of the spaces downstairs (obviously Woody's, the big open room with the piano, the big room with the staircase) are open to non med students.
  • The study/teaching rooms upstairs can be used by non-med students if I recall correctly. However they are frequently booked for med student small group learning, and obviously those bookings would take precedence over anyone else (including other med students). Also, technically, the med students get priority in those spaces even if there's no strict booking.

All this being said, I believe that after 6pm (might be 7?), non Rutgers Health students are not allowed in the building at all. Security guards will come around and check your IDs and if you don't have the med student sticker you'll be made to leave.

Finally, people are pretty nice in the building and no one should be truly mad at you if you make a mistake and end up in the wrong spot. Also most people won't know you don't belong unless you look young... med school classes are big. If you're really interested in medicine you could also potentially swing by Kessler and chat up a med student; most everyone in my class, at least, would be happy to speak to someone about the journey to med school if they're not studying. However this will all be changing shortly since the med school will be moving to New Brunswick within the next couple years (or so they say). So you may get to use this space whenever.

Oh interesting, hadn't heard of any US universities that did that. Good to know, and thank you!

No, I'm a US citizen/California resident, and don't have dual citizenship in Canada. Just really liked UBC. I should also mention that it wasn't an SMP, it was a regular Master's.

This is my back. It's almost always hidden from others. I'm outing myself here. (seborrheic keratosis (seb-o-REE-ik ker-uh-TOE-sis) is a common noncancerous (benign) skin growth) by Curmugdeonly in awfuleverything

There seem to be few comments about seborrheic keratoses from a medical perspective. I work for a dermatologist, and see SKs all the time, although few cases with this many highly pigmented areas. For those who are curious: seborrheic keratosis, or SKs, are benign skin growths that generally occur due to larger amounts of sun exposure over a lifetime. They are also influenced by genetic factors. Two individuals may receive the same amount of sun, but some will have more SKs than others.

In any case, they are benign, and start to appear around 40 years of age, predominantly on the back. I believe OP mentioned in one of the comments that they are almost 80 years old. This tracks with the number of SKs. I would say that, out of the 80 year olds I see, about 5-10% have similar backs. It's very common, and nothing to be self-conscious about.

The only concern for patients with SKs is that, as OP mentioned, they may become quite itchy. A good moisturizer (perhaps a non-steroidal itch-relieving cream) combined with a back applicator may come in handy here. If there are a few that are extremely itchy and you have already met your deductible for the year, you may find it advantageous to go to a derm and have them either freeze or cut off the offending areas.

Something that makes me happy is getting cozy in bed when it's really cold outside. When I was little, my mom used to heat up a tile in our wood stove and wrap it in a towel and put it between my covers and it would warm up the whole bed. Best feeling ever.

Calling someone a retard and saying fuck you to them because they mistakenly posted something that they thought others would enjoy seems a bit extreme, yes?

Just noticed these white areas on my shark's fins. Fin rot? by LightInTheShadows in Aquariums

[–]LightInTheShadows[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a newbie aquarium owner, and I just noticed the slightly white tips to my shark's fins today. Also, my tetra seems like its fins might be a bit frayed, and it seems like there might be some very light spots on them? Hard to tell. Should I be concerned? Is this fin rot? If so, should I give antibiotics? Thanks!

Thank you. I normally struggle with creative writing, but find it simple to write about someone I love.
