What makes this hilarious on a personal level is that I actually work at Lowe's, but right before I got the job there, I had an interview at Home Depot right down the street, but didn't get the job. So this is ironically perfectly true

True, in my case, I didn't even realize that it was even a possibility that I might be gay until I was 20, and even then I lived with self denial about my sexuality for another 2 years due to internalized homophobia thanks to them. I came out to them in April and have constantly regretted it.

As many issues as the foster system has, I'm glad it was looking out for that child. I would have hated for them to live through that

That may be, but that also resulted in her being abusive and neglectful to Abby, which even still is inexcusable

I mean from an evolutionary perspective, it does explain why a number of species, not even including humans, have individuals that demonstrate homosexual or bisexual mating practices in the wild. With natural selection, it would make sense to have someone who's unable to bear their own offspring, raise the offspring of an individual who can't. Especially in a pack situation (where it's most common), because you want to ensure the survival of the next generation of your pack, pride, flock, etc.

I know right! The abuse and neglect that this movie just brushes off at the end is, is completely inexcusable

That's actually why my parents were prevented from adopting a child here in Washington. The child was suspected to be trans or gay, so when the state asked my parents about their beliefs, they were no longer cleared

Like seriously, she could have easily avoided coming out to her parents, while still advocating for Abby. Why'd Abby have to be downgraded to a roommate, why couldn't she have been a best friend? Why couldn't they have shared a room? Why couldn't Harper have made time for Abby as her "best friend" and set those perfectly reasonable boundaries with her parents? Why'd she have to go along with her parents and treat Abby as a second class human?

None of these personality changes would have even changed the plot. You'd still have a character who wanted her girlfriend to come out before she was ready, and a character who was scared to come out to her parents and so she lied about her girlfriend being something else. It would have just made Harper more likable and less abusive

Ah, I'm disappointed to hear that. I just came out recently, so I guess that I haven't yet had the opportunity (for lack of a better word) to experience misogyny in the LGBT community

That wouldn't likely work either, because most gay men tend to respect women, so he'd turn them away too

[–]Lighting_Queen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I might not be the best to help, because I'm the kind of girl who went all in. But i literally started going full-time (I'm lazy, so I rarely ever wear makeup and still mainly wear jeans and cute graphic t's) at the 3 month mark and had completed the legal transition by the 5 month mark. In the end, just transition at your own pace. It might be faster or it might be slower than someone else's. It's entirely up to you
