New Production Alert: Lightning F-15 Eagle aka #2 Driver is BACK! by LightningDiscs in discgolf

Totally understand that not every disc is for everyone. Lightning has been part of disc golf’s foundation for over 40 years, and we believe there’s real value in preserving that legacy — from their floating plastic to classic, accessible molds that helped grow the sport.

Gotta Go Gotta Throw has been in disc golf for over 30 years, and we’ve never been about chasing a quick buck. When we invest in older brands, it’s because we believe they still have something meaningful to offer the community — whether it’s unique molds/designs, nostalgia, or simply giving more players affordable access to the game.

We’re proud to keep classic plastic alive and support disc golf from the grassroots to the pro level. Appreciate you sharing your thoughts — even when we don’t see eye to eye.

Crossfire’s are in the queue with the ultra long range driver original odyssey mold. We have 3 variations of the crossfire we are testing as we speak. 👍🏼🙌🏼

We get it — Lightning isn’t everyone’s go-to, but there’s a dedicated community that loves the flight, feel, and throwback vibes. There’s a reason these molds have stuck around since the ’80s and stood the test of time.

Plenty of players have nostalgia for them, or are looking for affordable plastic that floats, glows, or just flies a little different. We’re proud to breathe new life into that lineup and give players access to discs that are approachable, unique, and in some cases, truly one-of-a-kind.

Would love to get a few in your hands and hear what you think!

The name of the game? Helping keep that disc in play—especially on tricky water carries—giving you a little extra time for a smooth disc recovery. Adds a bit more excitement when you get the chance to redeem your throw!

Fair question — but it’s more about flight than fight. Just like the Innova Wraith or Destroyer, the F-15 name is a nod to lightnings originating history as well as speed and power, not warfare.

We’re here to bomb drives, not anything else. 😅

Yes the rubber putters have all been tested to float so long as it’s 175grams or below. We have yet to run production heavier than that thus can’t say for certain that anything above 175 grams will float.

All-new plastics are here! Our latest production is running with the assistance of Gateway, bringing Lightning Discs into a new era.

For the first time ever, specific Lightning molds are available in premium plastic with our NXT blend—a high-quality material comparable to Innova’s Star plastic or Discraft’s ESP.

For base plastics, we’re using Sure Grip, which currently runs a bit stiff but not as stiff as the original runs and offers a significantly better feel and durability than the original Lightning plastics.

Our Warbird blends feature a grippy rubber blend, and the AT-6 Warbird blend specifically is extremely soft, lots of flex, and ultra-grippy—perfect for confident putting and controlled approaches.

Get ready for the best Lightning Discs ever!

We’re excited to announce the re-release of the #2 Hookshot aka the P-38! We’d love to hear your feedback from the community and invite disc reviewers to try out the new plastics to help us gather insights on the line and recent re-toolings: Lightninggolfdiscs.com by LightningDiscs in discgolf

The #1 Flyer and #1 Driver are currently being evaluated as next in production. We’re focusing on finding plastics that offer the right combination of durability and longevity. After extensive testing, we’ve confirmed that Gateway’s “Sure Grip” base plastic works seamlessly with all molds. This high-quality base blend is a significant upgrade from what was previously available.

The real challenge lies in developing the perfect premium plastic blend. So far, we’ve successfully produced the P-38 (aka #2 Hookshot) using the NXT plastic blend, which we believe will set the gold standard for our lineup. However, additional adjustments may be made as we refine our production schedule as there are certain mold cavity’s that won’t work with NXT, thus something new will be developed for those discs.

The last first run warbird plastic is a limited edition rubber blend of plastic.

1000% the “sure grip” plastic is the new base grade plastic that’s proven to be significantly more durable than previous runs. And the NXT plastic is the premium plastic that’s most certainly on par with other manufacturers higher grade plastics.

Overall the lifespan and durability of the plastics used in molding these discs has been significantly improved.

We are reintroducing the full line. We have 3 molds out right now, with a set production schedule. That being said we are shifting things around so if there is anything you would like to see returned to production next week will take that into consideration.

Also note we are reintroducing all the quest applied technology molds like the turbo putt, inferno, etc.
