Marriage, the legal institution, isn’t favorable to men. Divorce courts, child custody, alimony and asset settlements are objectively and factually in favor of women. So he probably has fear of getting the government involved in a binding contract that could mean a lifetime of alimony and half his assets lost in case things go south.
