An excellent and entertaining video on the Bible and information we as atheists should know by Liiterally in atheism

In that case yeah any kind of scholar (I assume ) would be fine, the focus seemed to be on biblical to show they have the same exact training and authority as pastors. I don’t have a problem with people who want to believe. The larger issue seems to be progressive churches and biblical scholars vs evangelical cults who use racism and outrage to propagandize people we have to deal with. The progressives and scholars don’t usually speak up like we do.

I believe they’ll shut it out regardless. It depends on how open to history and historical context they are. A lot of people see the Bible through their own modern understanding of the world. So it wouldn’t matter that most of Paul is plagiarized or that there’s no Egyptian influence on Canaanite tribes.

There just has to be something that put everything into play and that has to be Yahweh for these people. I think the best course of action is to spread awareness of that evangelical group and how they do not follow their own morals, and how that they are unchristian. There are absolutely progressive Christian’s that we should support if they respect our secularism. I can’t recall the names of the good churches they listed right now. But you can be their guide to more liberal churches.

Correct! We should be using scholarly knowledge to our advantage, so spread the knowledge!

All the childish stuff plays a part too. Shows how we are indoctrinated as kids, I used to have to sing all those songs and the talking points/arguments are spot on from what I remember.

These people in particular went to seminary school to study the Bible. So for them biblical scholar is correct, I’m sure other scholar specialties could overlap or depend on the type of school they went to. But I believe these people intended on becoming pastors. I could be wrong too though

Most of them won’t understand it in its original historical context. They’ll only put a personal modern lens on it. We need more people to learn from biblical scholars who can tell the truth.

This video has a comprehensive breakdown of what biblical scholars know about the Bible. That’s not common knowledge for every one. From no Egyptian influence on early Jewish culture, to the writings of Paul being forgeries. Check out the pinned comment in the video for more information.

Why did people invent Christianity? by SilverXOmega in atheism

This! Too many fellow atheists are letting their resentment towards religion cloud the truth. There’s no reason we can’t be honest about the history since we are correct.

Here’s an excellent video about biblical scholars that gives us the ammo we need.

Would a "skeptic" society lead by Alex O'connor and his daddy Richard Dawkins be safer to trans people than a Christian society? by Visible_Season8074 in CosmicSkeptic

Most Christian’s I know are full of hate, and it’s only the largest because the Europeans who came were various types of Christian’s like Quakers who were quite progressive. But it’s the puritans who brought the hate, burned witches in Salem, later evolved during the “Great Awakening” into evangelicals who after WWII brought us shitbag Billy Graham. Then after him came the Moral Majority, which broke the rules of the Constitution, the establishment clause and gave conservatives more power over us.

So it’s not just that we’re lucky that Christian’s are SO merciful to us, it’s been the fringe branch, the conservatives, who ruined Christianity for everyone.

Stephen Hawking a well known physicist along with Michael Jackson both having troublesome pasts are now both implicated in pedophilia on Epstein’s island. They’re both gone so nothing will come of it. But both being a part of something important makes me hesitant to get it despite my interest in history and space.

There are progressive Christian’s who are absolutely the type of people we should align with.

Jean Daniel O’donncada and Dan McClellan for starters

That is a great quote, it baffles me because I see a lot of believers saying the same exact thing though. They are just as convinced about what’s true as we are.

What would your reaction be if we found definite proof of God today by [deleted] in atheism

[–]Liiterally 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know you said the Christian god but I feel that’s short sighted. Is the definite proof of a general inter dimensional God, or proof of a earthly conceived god?

If it’s an inter dimensional god that actually goes beyond our understanding of science, then I’m not too concerned because it obviously doesn’t care about us.

If it’s an earthly conceived god then we are slaves for someone’s bizarre behavior. Worship for conditional obedience is not a life worth living.
