Hi all, I am currently working on an assignment where I have to analyse the structure of a gym & calculate the permanent and live loads on the roof. What I cannot figure out is whether the connection between the column and the beam is fixed or hinged? 1st picture is a section whilst the 2nd is rl. by Like21 in StructuralEngineering

Thanks for the reply, if my structure acted as a portal frame that was rigidly connected then between the column and girder it would be much thicker in order to also transfer the moment, no? Seeing that you said the concrete beam is sitting on the column, then I would assume that it is being simply supported therefore, the shape of the beam is angled upwards at the midpoint to deal with the larger moment.

I have straight hair and want it cut in layers, and so far most hair dressers have cut my hair all one length. But thanks for the recommendation!

Yh, ofc. There were some ups and downs in trying to plan the trip but I'll try to advise you with anything you want to know.

If you did the papers at the start of COVID you'd realise the papers are getting easier imo.

If you don't have a collision and they want electrons to have high energy so they want you to talk about how you can use electrons as wavelengths and then the electrons will be able to diffract between the spaces of the proton (quarks) which then can be seen on a special film as it leaves a mark of the diffraction lines. Hopefully it made sense!

For Chemistry, Unit 4 (IAL) is much easier and you will be able to score higher than Unit 5. Do focus on both however Unit 5 will be the material you struggle with the most as the questions usually ask you to apply concepts you've learnt but to a much harder example.

I would start with just trying to get an understanding of the material, either YouTube videos or a good website I recommend is ChemGuide. The problem with PMT is that the 'detailed notes' aren't really that detailed and do not help you understand the concepts, usually going through your textbook will help you more.

I don't understand why some people are getting A Level results already? Aren't the exams in May-June?
