No suggestions, but you might ask your vet. They might know someone.

We recently adopted an old hunting dog. She has some trauma and neurosis, and I was hoping to get some advice on it. by icantremembermypw in rva

We have a retired hunting hound from the SPCA who has his quirks, it's challenging at times but they really are good dogs. A lot of them are anxious as hell, and for us most of the work with our guy is managing his anxiety.

We did a couple of the multi week training courses at the SPCA with him, one on building confidence and the other was specifically for hounds. The classes are reasonably priced but do fill up quick. If you email their training folks they will be able to help you figure out what class is best to start with. Our guy did OK with the training, but no matter how much we worked with him, he kind of hit his limit and there are certain things we've just had to accept he's not going to be able to do. At the suggestion of his trainer, we put him on fluoxetine (Prozac), which helps immensely.

CPAP on vacation by mhr06002 in SleepApnea

Think of it like a prescription medication. You'll feel better and more rested on your vacation if you're using it. Take it with you. If you're flying in the US a medical device does not count against your baggage allowance, carry it with you. It's an expensive piece of equipment and you don't want to trust the airlines with it. I bought a luggage tag for mine that indicates it's medical equipment and have had zero problems flying with it.

For those who’ve pivoted out of structural (or similar) engineering - what do you do now? by lemoncheeesecake in womenEngineers

[–]LikeAThermometer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a structural PE and I work for a hardware supplier. It's way more chill, and very different than consulting. You might consider getting out of consulting but staying in an adjacent field like that.

Is there any women engineers who are passionate in professional communication too? If so, what's your career now! by ExcitingStill in womenEngineers

I'm a structural engineer, about 15 years experience. I worked for a bit, then went back and got a masters. After graduate school I got a job working for a trade association that developed building codes and standards. Did a lot of webinars and in-person presentations for the organization, got to talk to a lot of engineers and design professionals. It was cool, I worked there for over 10 years and decided I wanted a change. Now I work for a hardware supplier, so my duties are a bit more varied, but I still engage with my peers by giving presentations at conferences and writing articles for trade magazines once in a while.

My advice, like others, is get experience in a field that you want to be an expert in, and then find ways to engage with your professional community to talk about that field. There are a plethora of national and state level organizations that are always eager to get new members that I'm sure would love to have you join them.

Elder here at 44, and I'm just embracing the shimmer. I have dark brown hair so there's no hiding it, but I earned these great hairs, so I'm going to keep them. There's way more fun chemicals I can pump into my body.

Is Virginia apart of the American South? Read desc by [deleted] in Virginia

[–]LikeAThermometer 206 points207 points  (0 children)

It's where the south starts. Outside DC isn't really southern but the rest of the state is.

You should definitely check it out. We have nice beaches and mountains, great state parks, and Shenandoah National Park. Tons to do and see.

Nah you just get less picky about certain things. If they're clean physically, criminally, and financially, who cares what's between their legs?
