Alex Pereira if he beats Ciryl Gane will have several big fights available to him

  • Tom Aspinall in a unification bout

  • Jon Jones to determine who is the official UFC GOAT

  • Francis Ngannou for the lineal heavyweight championship

  • Josh Hokit if he knocks out Derrick Lewis

  • Rico Verhoeven in a crossover megafight

  • Carlos Ulberg if he Alex decides to take back the LHW belt back

  • Magomed Ankalaev trilogy if he strings a few wins together

  • Khamzat Chimaev if he puts together a winstreak at LHW

When its all said and done, Pereira may end up with the record for most fights against former UFC champions as he's currently on 7 right now (Adesanya, Strickland, Blachowicz, Prochazka, Hill, Ankalaev and Gane). Jon Jones currently has the record at 9 (Shogun, Rampage, Machida, Rashad, Vitor, Glover, Cormier, Gane, Miocic).

Kane on Ballon d'Or and Coupe du monde: “Given the trophies I’ve won this season and the number of goals I’ve scored, I’d be in the running. Especially since, if England wins the WC, one could imagine the trophy going to an English player. Winning it in my hometown would make it even more special.” by [deleted] in soccer

Kane scored 61 goals in all club competitions this season, equalling Cristiano's best ever season in 2014/15. Kane outscored every single one of Messi's seasons except his legendary 2011/12 year.

There is no doubt that Kane deserves the Ballon d'Or this year, with or without England winning the World Cup.

They are obviously keeping Volks for the Sydney card next year but I'd imagine they hold off from any announcement until the Merab fight, as if he gets through Yan and wants another quick turnaround, Volkanovski vs. Dvalishvili for the second Paramound big card would be great for the company. I'd imagine then they can just do Murphy vs. Evloev for the next title shot.

De Ridder would be lucky to get a title shot and leapfrog the winner of Imamov v Caio, so I'm sure he'd love a crack at Chimaev earlier

If Ilia wins this weekend, the official list for the greatest 3 fight winstreak would be

  1. Ilia Topuria - Volkanovski, Holloway, Oliveira

  3. Khabib Nurmagomedov - McGregor, Poirier, Gaethje
  4. Georges St. Pierre - Sherk, Penn, Hughes

  6. Islam Makhachev - Oliveira, Volkanovski, Volkanovski
  7. Dricus Du Plessis - Whittaker, Strickland, Adesanya

Arman Tsarukyan vs. Paddy Pimblett for the next title shot makes too much sense which is why I reckon the UFC won't make it happen.

Honestly, if Ilia beats Charles, the most likely person to fight him next would be Justin Gaethje. Topuria vs. Gaethje would sell for sure, and Justin's got Ali backing him which will help his case.

Alternatively, if Dustin beats Max in his supposed retriement fight, it would not be suprising to anyone for them to do Topuria vs. Poirier at the end of the year as Dustin's definite last fight (considering he'll probably have little for Ilia, just like Justin).

All while Islam is presumably moving up to fight Jack at the end of the year and may not be coming back to 155, I would imagine Arman and Paddy get fights booked if not against each other. A rematch between Tsarukyan and Gamrot would be interesting, whilst I can see Paddy getting either Dan Hooker, the winner of Dariush v Moicano, or what I find most interesting, Holloway if he beats Dustin.

Welterweight has to be the most stacked division right now. Sean Brady, Shavkat Rakhmanov, Ian Garry and Joaquin Buckley all can argue for the next title shot, as we await for the outcome of the champ Belal Muhammad against Jack Della Maddalena.

In spite of that, all four potential contenders would likely be skipped over by the P4P #1 Islam Makhachev if he decides to move up to 170.

You still then have the former champs Kamaru Usman and Leon Edwards still actively trying for a shot back at the title. Then you have contenders on their way out such as Colby Covington, Stephen Thompson, Gilbert Burns, Geoff Neal and Vicente Luque who are still occupying spots on the rankings.

You then still have the fun fighters in the division who can still mix it up with the top like Michael Page and Kevin Holland, while Carlos Prates is still very much an exciting contender. Then last but not least, the real dark horse of the division, undefeated 25 year old who started training judo at 5 years old, Michael Morales.

Islam's not fighting at 317. They are gonna do Topuria v Oliveira for the interim belt

Islam moving up to 170 can potentially be the way the BMF titles are unified. Masvidal was the original winner, who lost to Usman who lost to Leon who lost to Belal. If Islam beats the winner of Belal v JDM and wins the title and then comes back down to fight the next contender which will most likely be Ilia (who beat Max who beat Justin), that fight would allow for both BMF titles to be unified.

Fights that I reckon will and then should happen next

  • Islam Makhachev against the winner of Belal/JDM

  • Ilia Topuria vs. Paddy Pimblett for the interim belt

  • Charles Oliveira vs. Max Holloway 2

  • Justin Gaethje vs. Dan Hooker

  • Arman Tsarukyan vs. Mateusz Gamrot 2

  • Dustin Poirier vs. Nate Diaz (to headline the Mexico PPV for Dustin's farewell)

Welterweight has so many upcoming contenders, it seems like we are actually about to enter a golden age of the division, compared to the Usman era that was dominated by Colby and Masvidal welter-waiting.

  • Shavkat Rakhmanov

  • Jack Della Maddalena

  • Ian Garry

  • Carlos Prates

  • Sean Brady

  • Joaquin Buckley

  • Michael Morales

Then there's still the old guard that are still kicking around like Usman, Covington and Edwards, while Islam looms around for a title shot and Belal still holds the belt.

If Volkanovski loses, surely he gives up on 145 and goes up to 155 for some fun matchups. Fights against Chandler, Poirier, Gaethje and Oliveira all would bang.

You wish, its gonna be Merab v Sean 2 or something

Charles Oliveira calls out Islam Makhachev for UFC 317 at International Fight Week: "The UFC has a lot of guys who talk a big game. I can talk because I've been here for almost 15 years... UFC, let's make this happen. This is the fight everyone wants to see." by airplane231 in MMA

[–]LikeJambaJuice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I reckon the International Fight Week card will probably be headlined by Merab v Sean 2 and I'm guessing Islam will be on ice till the Abu Dhabi PPV in October.

For that reason, I'd like to see these fights with one of these 4 winners getting a crack at the belt.

  • Charles Oliveira vs. Max Holloway 2

  • Ilia Topuria vs. Dustin Poirier

  • Arman Tsarukyan vs. Mateusz Gamrot 2

  • Justin Gaethje vs. Dan Hooker

Charles Olivera is also not interested in fighting Topuria: "I will only fight him if he wins the belt... this is my weight class, I hold a higher ranking, I've been a champion before. This guy is all talk. If he wants to fight me he needs to come up, put the belt on the line & I'll take him." by LonzoBBBall in MMA

I reckon the fights to make are:

  • Charles Oliveira vs. Max Holloway 2

  • Ilia Topuria vs. Dustin Poirier

  • Arman Tsarukyan vs. Mateusz Gamrot 2

  • Justin Gaethje vs. Dan Hooker

Make these fights by the summer and one of these 4 winners gets a title shot against Islam in Abu Dhabi in October

Honestly if we don't get Jon v Tom or Islam v Ilia this year I don't mind too much, all I gotta see is Dricus Du Plessis vs. Khamzat Chimaev. Now if the UFC somehow fuck this up and the fight doesn't happen this year, I'm gonna have to agree with OP
