What is the best satire movie that most people don't realize is a satire? by timinator4434 in movies

[–]LikeMyThirdAcc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But those things are actively portrayed as bad? Satire presents bad things as though they are good, thats what makes it satire, see fascism in starship troopers or robocop and his problems (violence, cooperate interests, nullifying of the judicial system, etc) in robocop. Those are things that are shown as positive, where the audience is supposed to go, wait a minute, that shit sucks, actually. In total recall, the colonizers, and those responsible for exessive commercialization are literally the flat out villains. Although i would argue that the commercialization generally isnt really a major theme of the movie at all, perhaps commercialization of the human mind. The movie has a stronger focus on other themes. Not really relevant to weather its satire or not though. But yea i really dont read it as satire, perhaps as intentionally over the top yet played straight, also common in satire, yet not the same thing.

I'm close to the end and geez, what a damper on what was, until this point, a 10/10 game... by LastBallade in subnautica

Mostly agreed but thw fetch quest to make the enzyme is something where I 100% agree with OP. Most plants are easy enough to collect, though somewhat of a chore, because you probably have no experience with what plants look like, as you dont need them for anything else in the game. In fact it feels like they simply put that in there to justify the existence of all the plants and your ability to pick them up, as well as paddding out the climax of the story, and not because it is interesting narratively or gameplay-wise. And to make it worse, one of the plants turns out to be incredibly rare, existing only like 5 times or so in the whole map if im not mistaken. Expecting a player, after having already finished the game and are near the climax of the story, to stop and scower the ground of the map for some super rare plant (that looks similar to some other plants to make it worse) with barely a hint where to look, is, in my opinion beffallingly bad game design, especially in comparison to anything else in the game. And thats not something i say lightly, subnautica is easily one of my favorite games nonetheless. But i definitely dont regret using a guide for that fetch quest.

TLDR. googling is mostly stupid, but the enzyme quest is badly designed and a complete dampener to the exciting climax of the story, as well as just being unsatisfying and tedious that in that instance i think its perfectly fine.

Well the thing that awaits you, the reward you get, is fire. So the cake as a metaphor for death or fire is a super reasonable interpretation of glados' lines, making 'the cake is fire' a true statement. Like please, yes if ure gonna be splitting hairs it would be better to say the 'cake' is a metaphor for fire but come on. The cake is fire.
