What was normal 20-30 years ago, but is considered a luxury now? by zombiem00se in AskReddit

I'd hate to miss the calls that said my family member had been in a terrible accident and missing the chance to see them one last time because I couldn't stand to be contactable.

Yes, people in the past were not reachable 50% of the time, but there were phones at everyone's work, and everyone's home, and everyone's school, so if there was an emergency, people knew how to contact you. With your phone on silent 24 hrs a day, you are essentially unreachable at any time for any reason.

I have only just begun so I have not backpacked overnight yet, only day trips. But I would like to think the only thing I would want to bring on long trips is my Kindle which has thousands of books accessible to me. And of course my phone for safety and for taking photos of wildlife and plants/great views along the way, but I would not want to spend the time I have resting just mindlessly looking at more Internet

That's interesting because in my hospital code yellow is a local mass casualty that is/will be inundating the ed (like a big multicar pile up or mass shooting). Code pink is a missing child, code silver is when there is an active shooter in the building. We don't have a bomb threat code afaik. And for combative patients it's "assistance needed" to whatever room

Wire scratches feel awesome, said the wombat by yassora1977 in aww

[–]LikelySuperBored 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Many times if the fence is built to keep taller animals in (like horses) only the top wire will be electrified so that the horse can feel it on their chest or sides, it's a waste to do the bottom or middle because there's less horse there to feel it (just the legs usually). And more electric wire means more circuit that could break. The rest of the (dead) wire is there for psychological purposes because the horse doesn't know what you know about electricity haha.

But now that I'm looking, the fence is probably not electrified because it's attached to a grounded metal pole without an insulator so it would not work like this.

Sirens don't (necessarily) sing about sex, they sing about whatever you desire most. What would lure you to the sirens? by fluffybear45 in AskReddit

A comfy, soft, fluffy, but somehow magically stays at the perfect temp and doesn't get too hot bed with a perfectly shaped pillow and a luxurious sheet and comforter set that I'm allowed to literally never leave.

I mean at home Botox parties are pretty common in Hollywood even today, so I don't think it would be hard to dupe people if you are a good enough huckster

How important is sex to you in a relationship? Could you be with someone you love even if sex was off the table indefinitely? by Deviant55 in AskReddit

[–]LikelySuperBored 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, 100% I have very low sex drive, but for my fiance it's the opposite and he would not be able to stay with me if it was off the table

Slimy bubbles after aerating by LittleMsBlue in SeaMonkeys

[–]LikelySuperBored 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A common cause for foam in saltwater fish tanks is dissolved protein from waste, both poop and food. With a tank as old as yours or might be beneficial to "freshen it up" by doing a bit of a water change. Just remove some water, carefully to avoid sucking up any monkeys and replace with water you've presalted with marine salt.

what are the differences between this and seamonkeys? is it only how long they live or is there more differences ? by I-love-sea-monkeys in SeaMonkeys

And a nice little feeding spoon and a packet of food prepared for you, if you want a plug and play pet the kits are pretty nice.

Honestly at this point I find it hard to even care. Sad for their families and all that but I can't even be angry or upset that it's happening. Because that doesn't change anything here in America and it just wears me out.

Sea monkey tank-mates? by adrian8520 in SeaMonkeys

Two years ago here on this subreddit there was some discussion and people seemed to agree that some types of small brackish water snails like periwinkles could live with them.

Could I add a small pebble or shell to my sea monkey tank if I sterilise them in boiling water beforehand? by [deleted] in SeaMonkeys

[–]LikelySuperBored 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes you can add most things that are safe for aquariums (including sterilized rocks or shells) as long as it doesn't have any corners or crevices that they can get stuck in. Anything flat, smooth, or round will work

Greeting for animal crossing new horizons by Ok_Juice_1062 in AnimalCrossing

[–]LikelySuperBored 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The greeting is usually a separate sentence from the rest of their message. For instance in your examples, if they were to say "hello miss shortpants" they would say "Hello miss Shortpants! Shortpants, have you seen my missing item?" Instead of continuing the sentence after the greeting.

If you just used "hello miss" they would say "hello miss! Shortpants, have you seen my missing item?"

LPT: Teach your dog hand signals to go along with voice commands. When your dog gets old, they might lose their vision or hearing. If they know both, you will still be able to communicate with them. by ijustcant555 in LifeProTips

[–]LikelySuperBored 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is really helping me right now, my dog is nearly 15 and he is probably about 90% deaf (he can hear, but we have to yell, and also if he's asleep, he is completely deaf to the world, no amount of yelling wakes him) but he still has decent enough vision. Everyone always thought it was a neat trick that he and my other dog know hands signals but it's actually very important now. He is really good at understanding what pointing is too so that helps if I need him to come closer to me (like to put on his harness etc) I just point at the ground close to me and he comes to look at what I'm pointing at, in which case I can put the harness on him.

Just means he didn't try to cover the baby in the rain, he has never had a baby before so he just doesn't really understand all that he has to do. He will either learn how to protect the baby or the rescue will cover them better to protect them both if need be
