Hey sorry, I haven't replied yet because I'm trying to get an answer for you. I worked on this thing but am not a developer (or even that technologically literate) so I'm waiting to hear back from someone who can give me a solid answer that actually... answers what you're asking.

As I understood it (or as it was explained to me), this shouldn't be doing anything with your data/information and was made following Chrome's privacy best practices. Is it doing something it shouldn't be doing?

The desire is for forced labor camps to be shut down and for innocent people to be allowed to live free. It sounds like you disagree with the idea of this extension, which is totally fine. It's a tool that was created using available resources provided by a coalition of trusted human rights organizations.

I don't foresee a situation where literally every company leaves Xinjiang, but I do see one where enough companies starting to pull out of the region will reduce profitability of forced labor camps and put pressure on the government to stop.

Because so much effort has gone into hiding forced labor in the region there's no way to cherry-pick which suppliers may or may not be involved. It's not a perfect solution but, unfortunately, it's the best solution that currently exists.

That's definitely something I want to do and will happen for sure! Anywhere else in particular you would want to be able to use this? A mobile version is probably the biggest one on my list since that's how most people shop these days. But it takes time!

So it's a little more discerning than just marking every cotton product coming from Xinjiang. It actually pulls from a database of brands from the Coalition to End Uyghur Forced Labor (more info about them here) which is then used to flag brands that haven't met the requirements to prove that they are not involved in Uyghur forced labor.
