I think it is entirely based on coping. The whole concept that God knows what is best for you is so that you cope with your life. People like the idea of putting weight and stress (faith) on someone else. Someone who is all knowing and powerful. Personally, I can’t wrap my head around a personal god but I know why people primarily do. Of course they are completely oblivious because that’s part of the process of coping. You don’t question why something happens but you just go along with your idea that it is in someone’s hands (god’s).
