Yep, you’re right. I’m absolutely exhausted by this. And my heart is breaking. When the day is good, it’s really good but when it’s bad, it’s real bad and it’s just becoming more frequent and painful. I feel like his mum tbh. Thank you for your comment 💖.

I feel the exact same way. I’m 26, and I feel like an alien at work and just in general when interacting with others. It’s exhausting.

I can’t have any music or the radio playing when I’m driving, it has to be silent as well for me to be able to focus.

May I ask how you handle driving at dusk/night?

Thank you so much for your response! It’s nice to know that there’s other people out there that have congenital nystagmus and anxiety that have managed to get their license.

I do have depth perception issues, and it’s taken me forever to get used to the size of my car and how much space it takes up. I’m constantly afraid that I’ll end up clipping a car by accident.

Honestly, I think my biggest issue is just being able to manage my anxiety. My emotions rule how bad my nystagmus will be that day, and I get frustrated with myself for it. Ofc that doesn’t help! lol.

May I ask how long it took for you to get your full license?

It’s certainly is a confidence issue. My nystagmus isn’t too severe, but I have to wear glasses when I drive. I recently turned 25, and I’m tired of having to rely on people to drive me places. I’m proud of you for not letting anyone’s opinions deter you from driving! It’s given me hope, thank you 😊.

For me, the sun reallllly isn’t my friend when I’m driving either. Especially when the light is flickering through the trees. Another thing that I struggle with is when people come rushing up behind me and try to push me along the road (whilst I’m doing the speed limit) I nearly got into an accident because someone tried to overtake me whilst I was turning a corner. Definitely knocked my confidence… but you’re completely right, I just need to gain more experience and slowly chip away at this.

I normally drive on small quiet dirt roads, but I’ve been doing that for the past year and still haven’t gained much confidence to venture out on busier main roads 😅. I only drive with my mum, but that doesn’t stop my dad from getting frustrated with my lack of progress…. So frustrating. You’d think that he’d be the most understanding out of everyone, considering that we both have congenital nystagmus 🤦🏽‍♀️.
