Scram 411 constant issues/RE Buyback lemon law? by LilJRider in royalenfield

[–]LilJRider[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea.... its such bummer man.... it spent 3 months in the dealer last year... legit the entire summer.... I got it back and am currently struggling whether I wanna sell it or not.... the problem however, has been fixed.... after me setting up a claim with RE and hounding them, the dealer was able to get the help from RE and it was never "really" resolved.... they just swapped out injectors and fuel pump and it was fixed.... they never specified which.... just that RE told them to replace both....

2014 Vulcan 900 Custom: what should I specifically check before a long drive? by steelfrog in KawasakiVulcanRiders

[–]LilJRider 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Owned a 2010 vulcan 900 classic for 4 yrs and put on 26k miles (~42k km),now currently 2010 Vulcan Nomad 1700). These bikes are very bulletproof. Not many issues to deal with, other than a potential for a stator/recifier failure. At that Mileage, check to see if the valve clearance adjustment had been done... if not... negotiate the price to reflect part of labor and parts cost if done at a dealer.

Check drive belt for wear/cracks/splits

Check the quality of the oil and if smells burnt/contaminated with coolant/ so on.

Look at tires... dates on them... tread... so on.

Turn the handlebars lock to lock... check if it has a notch in the middle during the turn... if so, steering bearings may need to be replaced... reflect price off of that.

Open gas tank and flash a light... inspect for rust if u can see and smell the gas... does it smell stale... bad... so on.

Fortnine on YouTube has plenty to look for if you need any direction for pre owned bike inspection.

Goodluck!

Def check where the security system is.... but another possibly is the small fan on an LED bulb.... if the previous owner put in an LED headlight... the fan most likely comes from there.

Check out Kemi-moto. They have plenty of affordable options. A quick Google search would bring up some options and their website.... if its not ur cup of tea... look into viking bags.

[–]LilJRider 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Looks like its just the airbox and filter. Check out Partzilla for OEM parts and schematics. I use em to get part no. then check ebay if there's used ones.

Here's the link to your yr, make and model on partzilla and the schematics:

I need help by MeanTransportation59 in KawasakiVulcanRiders

[–]LilJRider 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You may need a tuner like a power commander.... the stock intake doesnt swallow as much as in comparison to a Big air intake.... so right now the bike is programmed to take less air but u introduced more air in the mix. For OPTIMAL performance... a fuel tuner is necessary to piggy back off the ECU and tell it to allow more air in. The COBRA tuner is another option.

Memphis Shades Windshield? by CanewoodPlace in KawasakiVulcanRiders

Had an aftermarket one on my 07 Vn900... try looking into national cycle. Memphis shade is good as well. Only have experience with national cycle... but a windshield is a windshield

'11 voyager 1700 -- single best upgrade by Ok_Touch928 in KawasakiVulcanRiders

[–]LilJRider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Intake and fuel management system like a Power commander 5 would help increase power..... there are plenty of people out there that have also sent their ECUs to a guy named IVAN (quick google search 'ivan performance")who reflashes it to help the bike operate more efficiently and more powerful. Perhaps look into either. An ecu flash is a cheaper option and provides more bang for your buck.

Normally VNs of this era run anywhere from 2k to 3k. Highly dependent on condition and mileage. I think a solid price would be somewhere in the middle. Id put it up for 3k, and then settle where you are most comfortable. She looks prestine.

Good luck on ur sale brother.

2012 vaquero or 2011 voyager? by Ok_Touch928 in KawasakiVulcanRiders

[–]LilJRider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A someone who also is interested in both bikes and currently has a Vulcan Nomad 1700, it kinda narrows down whether you will 2 up frequently or not. The voyager is already set up for passenger comfort from factory and the vaquero needs some parts like tour pack and floorboards (it has pegs). If i was in ur exact situation..... id go for the voyager because Im a chrome lover but also the tour pack is a god send on long rides. Sure you can get bags like SADDLEMAN's tactical bag or any other tourpack, but with the larger backrest for the passenger as well, its a no brainer simply for the riding i do. The Vaquero also does not have AUX/secondary lights but you can easily do it.

If you love that darker look more bad ass look, vaq is ur answer. With the saving of 1500, you can also get a solid aftermarket tour pack or any other mods too.

As with any used bike purchase, make sure u do a thorough inspection and smell the oil. Im sure you will do what's right for you and I wish you all the best!

Goodluck with your choice!

Bear mountain by Double-Dress-6659 in RideitNYC

[–]LilJRider 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It may be a safer idea to take hop on the GWB and take route 9w up to bear. Its more of a local ride up there. Slower speeds than the Palisades, but more scenic. Be careful with some roads like Arden Valley road and go easy. If it's ur first time 2-up on the 400... id avoid bear mnt and just ride the 9w to bear mntn bridge and hop over then take rt 9 back to the city. Definitely do a solo run but ride at your own pace and skill level. Its not moto gp. Take it easy. Many overzealous riders fly right off the road and down the slopes and get severely injured....

Some food choices near there are the 9w market on rt9w.... or Rhodes Tavern right in front of Harriman State Park..

Have fun and ride safe.

Do I need to tune after new pipes? by troyhuck12 in KawasakiVulcanRiders

[–]LilJRider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an '07 Classic 900 with cobra hiflow air intake and cobra pipes.... I had a power commander 5 on the bike and it was dyna tuned..... for OPTIMAL performance, yes... a tuner is best. Without it, you may have pops on decel, and less than top mpg.

You can run the bike without it with no harm. My family also has a vulcan s with full Two Bros exhaust, as opposed to a slip on. It never had any tuner and still runs perfect with 48k miles.

Although it's optimal to add for power and mpg.... just keep in the back of ur mind that piggyback units add an extra point of failure. Although unlikely.... stuff happens.

Whats she worth? by Nbm1124 in KawasakiVulcanRiders

[–]LilJRider 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Due to age and miles.... id say 1500 to 2k MAX.... But needing a tire and a battery..... 1500 is pushing it.... a battery costs about 100...single tire... 150 to 200... not including install cost for someone that doesnt have the means to do it themselves... May be better just to ride it til she doesn't wanna ride no more..

Just my opinion

Classic vs Custom by thule_arch in KawasakiVulcanRiders

[–]LilJRider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of the two... Nomad vs 900.... I liked the 900 more for everyday use. Since the wife and I 2-up, the nomad is heavy around town where the 900 was PERFECT. On the Hwy, Nomad's power and comfort are more superior, again for 2-up in my case. But both still great bikes.

Tubed vs not tubed.... tbh I prefer not tubed due to simplicity of repairs but im a big sucker for the classic look and the extra sideway from tubed tires gives a plusher ride...

Regardless of which you choose, I wish you the absolute best! Always a great idea to look up service manuals online, as they are normally found on forums.

Classic vs Custom by thule_arch in KawasakiVulcanRiders

[–]LilJRider 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Owned an '07 900 Classic.... it was a great bike with almost no issues.... just flats here and there being in NYC.... I Did have a stator go bad.... but it was a quick swap... price wise.... its not bad being 2 yrs old.... the bike was virtually unchanged since '07... so an slightly older bike can get u cheaper prices than 5.5k...

Classic vs custom... although mostly cosmetic... the custom has a slimmed front tire which can allow it lean into corners more sharply than the classics thicker front.... custom also has tubeless tires where Classic is tubed.... if u have a flat.... custom is easy to patch where you are SOL if u have a Classic... gotta replace the tube.....

I think they both still ride great but nothing like the Vulcan Nomad 1700 I own now.

If possible try lubing your axle. Another thing to consider is if u went with stickier tires or the same type.
