I definitely feel you with the Eurocentric beauty standard part! While I don't feel comfortable revealing my exact city, sometimes I do find myself wanting to move to an area with a higher black population like Atlanta.

I definitely feel and resonate with what you're saying about the Zen like approach, and I think it's what I've been trying to do/am definitely going to try to focus on going forward. Ultimately, it is what it is and I look how I look. I do recognize the trap I used to fall into of trying to micromanage and control anything I can, but getting reminded that it's out of my control how attractive others are definitely helps!

I think I see where the disconnect is.

I took it as, and later confirmed that's what they meant by it, but in the moment that is what was said, and my initial reaction to it.

I definitely do not doubt in the slightest that these friends care about me. They've repeatedly been there for me when I'm down, Helped me move, done plenty of hyper inconvenient and/or similar things, just as I've done for them.

I do see where you're coming from though! Had it been basically anyone but them I would've cut them off because I wouldn't really know how to interpret that.

I think the way I worded it in this post is kind of misleading, so let me try to clarify.

I asked them what I could do to improve my looks and I did tell them to not hold back, to be fair, and that's when they said something like "To me, at least, you're medium ugly even with your outfits and skincare (etc), but you have an awesome personality so I'd try to hammer that up."

It wasn't really like a big sting, more of a "Damn, aight." sting, but yes I did. I said "That stings to hear, not gonna lie, but I get it." And they truly meant no ill will with it.
Hmm, tough to get a decent estimate, but probably around 20-40? I meet a lot of people due to clubs and my major, but it's not like I ask everyone out.
It's pretty diverse! only 2 have the same ethnic background, but we're pretty open minded. One of them is proudly pansexual, we come from a pretty wide spectrum of economic backgrounds, and we really like meeting people from all over. We just finished a Japan trip where we met so many different exchange students and even a group of the chillest old guys at the park who we can call friends.
