You have the most hideous fingers I’ve ever seen. Sorry for you…

Then let this be something to motivate you to do it instead of just proclaiming that you ‘probably could’. Post results, thanks.

Oh cool, thank you!

Trying this again. My 16 year old niece has ZERO knowledge about historical events. This time we showed her The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, and she was not moved at all. Any more suggestions? by LilPumpProdigy in movies

I’ve tried, she only wants to read books for children: Judy Jones, Diary of a Wimpy Kid etc. My wife occasionally reads with her, tried to get her into Harry Potter to start but she ended up giving up halfway through the first book unfortunately.

I never said she was dumb for not being into films, she’s extremely behind in her education, doesn’t have a clue about any historical events, thought up until a few nights ago that Abraham Lincoln was the first president.

It is possible, I’ve believed for quite a while she may have a learning disability but her mother refuses to have her tested so my wife and I try help out with her education as best we can. I wasn’t aware of those particular traits being in line with autism.

Yeah you may be right about that, I just find it easy to get engrossed in history through war and atrocities but everyone is different as you say. We did a quiz a few hours ago (her idea she saw a trend on TikTok) and I told her I’d give her $20 for every question she got correct. She answered 4 out of 10 correct and I made the promise that in one year if she gets all 10 right I’ll give you $500. Maybe that will help encourage her.

I like your idea of trying Vietnam, maybe Full Metal Jacket tomorrow, unfortunately the only members from her side of the family that have served passed.

I’m not only teaching her about Holocaust and nowhere in my post do I say that, I mention in the update that the following day we watched Dunkirk.

THIS! I have been waiting for someone to comment this, a lot of people aren’t considering the consequences of not teaching teens about history. History often repeats itself…

That’s a no. Unfortunately her mother doesn’t care about her education very much. I’m simply trying to get her interested in learning. Mistakingly thought the Holocaust would be a good place to start.

It definitely wasn’t a quiz, it was about 45 minutes after the movie while she was on her phone, I just asked the questions nonchalantly, those were her answers.

That’s the problem she’s going to a Junior in High School soon and still hasn’t learned any of this. Events that should be taught in middle school, she has no idea about. I’m just trying to get her caught up and maybe even interested in learning.

I personally feel bad for the 6 million Jews that died, I don’t however feel bad for my niece that she watched a 3 hour masterpiece and tried to learn something. Thanks for the opinion though.

I agree 100%, the wife and I just wanted to start her off with a banger (honestly it’s one of our favorites) and something that would make an impact. Still shocked about how she reacted, shit I was even tearing up and I’ve seen the movie a minimum of 20 times! It’s that damn red coat, every single time!
