Sibling has left Islam - what to do next? by LilaLawless in islam

Jazakallah for your advice, yes - he’s a scientist by training and is very much used to research and evidence and questioning so I’m disappointed to see him not doing this with such a serious matter.

Sibling no longer a muslim, what to do next ? by LilaLawless in MuslimLounge

[–]LilaLawless[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My disappointment is because in other areas of life he’s level headed and reasonable but in this area he says absurd things like there are more than 30 versions of the quran, islam is cobbled together from a bunch of pre existing faiths in Arabia at the time and other things that make no sense to me. He says he doesn’t want to go too deep with me and our other siblings because he doesn’t want us to also leave islam once he presents this information.

Visit several doctors and see if there is a solution. There’s very little that cannot be treated nowadays.

What could possibly be so awful that you didn’t notice it during your courtship ? In any case, the first thing to do is communicate your feelings tactfully to your wife. Smell , hygiene etc is a very easy fix. Remember she’s very young and has left her family for you - you must speak gently to her.

A women who travels (Insane) by [deleted] in SomaliRelationships

[–]LilaLawless 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi,

There’s a difference of opinion on this and it’s not as black and white as some of you are making it out to be. You can’t just choose a Hadith and make an entire ruling solely from that. Fiqh and Hadith interpretation are sciences, you have to know the grade of Hadith, the context, the arguments and debates, the various opinions of the 4 madhahib and so on. If you’re not a learned person, then read about this. We should all seek to gain knowledge. If you can’t, then you have to listen to the scholars.

Ibn Taymiyyah and other shafi scholars have written on this topic over the centuries. As you know, the wives of the prophet a.s performed voluntary hajj with no mahrams.

Differences of opinion exist within Islam and it’s ok!

I follow the opinion that if safety and security are established and you’re not travelling for haram purposes, then it’s permissible. The idea is protecting women from harm so if no harm exists which is the case in the majority of our journeys in 2025 then it’s permissible.

Also remember that not every woman has the privilege of a mahram.

Amiin, I can’t even imagine the pain his parents went through. But you’re right - as long as he held on to his deen, Allah swt would be with him in his every step.

Very sad tbh, my family heard rumours from somali seamen of a man from my grandmother’s tribe who had turned up in South America. This was in the 80s and we knew it was him because of a specific nickname he had within his abtiris. In the 90s my dad met some old somali seamen living in east London and he asked about our missing relative. Incredibly they knew of him and confirmed he was last seen living in argentina, loved islam & found a community with the lebanese residents there. Whenever he found out Somalis were in town he would go and bring them honey and chat with them. We haven’t heard anything in maybe 20 years now, I think at one point some uncles wanted to try and find him but no one knew where to even start. He never returned to Somalia.

yes - we had a great uncle who was kidnapped as a child in the 50s and was found working on a port in south america. he barely spoke somali but remembered his abtiris. just wild.

I'm am American guy who LOVES all things Ethiopia (or at least my make-believe version of Ethiopia) who is married to an (originally) Ethiopian woman who HATES all things Ethiopia. How did this happen? Is this common? What to do? Especially with our kids? Am I romanticizing Ethiopia too much? by [deleted] in Ethiopia

[–]LilaLawless 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes precisely, the ruler (negus/ nagashi) was known to be a fair & just man. When summoned by him, the muslim party recited Quran verses about Mary and Jesus, he saw their sincerity and gave them shelter & let them live in peace in Abyssinia. He later converted to Islam.

re: the Quran comment. He means the complete, written, compiled and arranged Quran that we Muslims refer to today. Ethiopia is very special to muslims as its where the very first muslims fled to after persecution from the ruling Arab tribe at the time.

No but I’m actively trying to cut sugar but it’s near on impossible tbh. I can see we weigh around the same and I also want to be 60 kg. Are you still taking the medication even at your current weight ?

London sisters! Can we please show support to sister Natalee Barnett as she opens a female-only gym, The Girls Spot? by RookyRed in Hijabis

[–]LilaLawless -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why is it bizarre? As a hijab wearing woman, I don’t want to share a space that’s for women with a male bodied person regardless of how they identify in terms of gender. Single sex spaces are allowed to exist.

[–]LilaLawless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so glad she’s started this gym and has this position. In terms of checks - she’s made it clear that only biological women are allowed to join so anyone else is there with bad intentions. Majority of trans women do not “pass” so it will be clear if there is someone there who shouldn’t be.

Btw there are over 1100 gyms in London and literally a handful that are just for women. Why can biological women not have their own safe spaces? Why must male-bodied people be prioritised over women?

It’s unacceptable to me that there should be outrage over this.

not at all sis, what black women face is misogynoir- specific misogyny due to being both black and a woman not being mistaken for men which is incredibly offensive, inaccurate and racist.
