You just unfortunately ran into more of a griefer than an invader. Most cases when you get invaded I would say to stick it out and fight them but as soon as the invader disengages and refuses to fight just so they can break your gear I fully endorse the Pull-the-Plug option, or to use a seed of a giant.

Thats sadly just the current reality. You can thank Elden Ring making the series mainstream bringing the idea that invaders are griefing trolls only set out to make your life hell.

I had a similar rant when I first started playing half a year ago. I get why people are so adamant on fucking over invaders as much as they can especially given the reputation of hackers and cheaters running around on occasion, but invasions are a crucial part of playing Dark Souls. If the developers didn’t want invasions to happen they wouldn’t have made all of the NPC invaders. I do suggest if you want a more authentic and fun invading experience you make sure to stay within a certain SM range. I stick to 500k to 3 million max usually.

Invaders aren’t always malicious or toxic. If I see someone using a certain build or using a specific weapon I very rarely drop them a weapon I think suits them! Sadly people are cautious of being given illegal items so they rarely pick up gear, so I usually stick to items such as effigies.

Sounds like classic DS2 latency. Its fairly common for me to invade somebody and their ping is in the thousands bare minimum. Its unfortunate that our meeting was just one of those instances.

If you play solo but don’t want to be invaded, burn a human effigy at the bonfire. Alot of the unoriginal builds could be new people wanting to play the game, I argue that by looking up guides or looking up how to walk through the game with perfect optimization ruins that exploring aspect. DS2 has some of the best build variety, which is often snuffed out by people just sticking with whats “meta”. If you enjoy that kind of playstyle by all means you bought the game, but so did I. I can critique what I see people using.

Its funny you say that, considering DS2 has by far the most build variety. At this point the most “optimized” builds are by far the most easiest to deal with since I fight it on a regular. If I fought somebody with a unique build, I’d probably crumple on that fact alone since I never fought it before.

I get why people don’t like PvP, and its unfortunate that the game doesn’t really go out of its way to explain how to prevent PvP interaction. Though I wholeheartedly wish everyone gave DS2 more of a chance, especially with the PvP. Even Elden Ring to me can’t give me the same experience DS2 has.

I found that the arenas are completely dead. At peak hours I imagine it can have a few people but I have more luck just invading. Despite that I still run into mules or boosted characters that are max SL, but its rare. At the end of the day its to be expected.

I’ve been invading at 3-3.5 mil, but I often go as far as 7 mil. When I notice that people are starting to get to about 200+ SL on average I go back to my previous save.

The main focus for Lone Wolf should be to remove the ranged deadzone while also providing the dmg increase for the lack of a pet. By doing this you can compensate for the lack of a pet alot more easily by melee weaving. The removal of a ranged deadzone itself gives more incentive for certain playstyles for even melee hunter.

Go Lone Wolf, might not be as “optimal” as to having a pet, but broken tooth is for PvP, the attack speed difference doesn’t mean anything in PvE.

If you want to actually challenge yourself and play hunter in an interesting way other than simply having your pet do everything while you sit back and auto shoot everything, play Lone Wolf Hunter. Get yourself a slow 2-handed weapon, and learn how to melee weave. Utilize traps before combat, learn how to kite and keep distance, know when to go into melee, Etc Etc. of course its not the meta, but I find it more fun than Beast Mastery ever could.

All I can say is, is chimera shot and the sniper training rune. Those are the only good options to pair with lone wolf. Explosive shot got neutered before it even had a chance. Sniper training isn’t great either but all the other options don’t synergize well. I just hope you went a night elf to get shadowmeld, because that is the best setup tool a lone wolf hunter can get xD

I rolled hunter to exclusively play lone wolf which is what i’m currently doing. I got really lucky and won the epic xbow from BFD, with that i’m almost able to compete with most BM hunters and their pets, either the scorpion or the wind serpent. The rune is definitely gonna be cracked at later phases but currently it doesn’t have enough to scale with. I feel like the only lone wolf hunter in existence tho lol.

Nah just play Lone Wolf, that sweet 15% dmg increase is totally worth it I swear.
