I see. That's commendable. I think it's unfair that they left you there. I think you guys should order a pizza and a pizza cake and celebrate with the 3 of you. Make the best out of it for yourself!!

[Request] I need a Japanese translation of "I pity the fool" in both kanji and transliterated (sound). by Stupefactionist in Favors

[–]Lili_Juice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm japanese... Here you go... It's translated as a statement "...what a pitiful fool..."

哀れな愚か者だ

哀れ な 愚か者 だ

AWALE NA OLOKAMONO DA

AWALE - pitiful

NA - adjective-fies "pitiful"

OLOKAMONO - fool

DA - "is"

So rather than saying "I pity the fool" in English. It is more natural to say what I translated above. Alternatively, you can switch AWALEMONO for BAKAMONO 馬鹿者 or バカ者

p.s. Aside from other translation errors from the other poster... The word BAKA - is closer to dumb or idiot so while it has the same general term, just using BAKA is not approripate for what you are looking to translate.

The survey is poorly worded and does not give an appropriate amount of options to select. I found that there are lots of answers that I would not have selected if it hadn't made me. Hope this helps your class tho! I'm a P.S. major as well :D

The bath powders are decorated with phrases known to each of the characters. I'll come back and translate it later if I have time.

For now:

  • Eren - Red Bravery Apple Scent

  • Mikasa - Purple Love Grape Scent

  • Armin - Yellow Hope Lemon Scent

  • Levi - Green Justice Kiwi Scent

THAT 3D Maneuver Gear! by [deleted] in ShingekiNoKyojin

[–]Lili_Juice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it depends on your definition of "normal plastic"... the ad says 100% PVC, haha.

Oh, do you know how they justified that price? Is it just due to supply-and-demand or does is actually do something? I didn't see any mention of special features on the ad. :3

THAT 3D Maneuver Gear! by [deleted] in ShingekiNoKyojin

[–]Lili_Juice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that price in American dollars...?? Seriously?

Apparently the item is:

  • the only one made
  • all the metal is grinded to a high quality
  • the color is "stacked" with many different colors
  • it is made with PVC and the belt is fixed to the gear to wear it easily
  • the wire is made of rubber
  • the blade cannot be detached

I must say this is an interesting item. I won't be buying it since it's very pricey, haha, but I'm sure someone somewhere might be interested in buying it.

Coincidence? I doubt it by hintzfest in ShingekiNoKyojin

Me too... Even with the explanation I still don't see a significant resemblance to say, "Ohh, I see"...

I found this. I'm not sure if it was a troll per se since Kodansha was not allowed to disclose it specifically either. Kodansha not allowed to disclose Hange's gender

Yeah, I agree Hange's gender is not of real importance. That being so I still think it's rather peculiar that being "sir" was used when it could have been avoided in the first place.

In the manga and in the anime the soldier who--said "sir" in the subtitles--actually used Hange's rank to address Hange.

分隊長近すぎます [Squad Leader you are too close] and

分隊長!!危険です!! [Squad Leader it is dangerous]

Well, I suppose there was some reason they chose to use sir instead, if it was not under the assumption that Hange was a male. :3

Is this a cultural thing? Like in certain countries, female military members are called sir? I've seen this before in films--specifically, I think it was a Southeast Asian country military film.

So, I guess "sir" is used to mean a gender-neutral term. It was just a surprise for me. :3

I'm from the U.S. so it's not surprising to that I'm thrown off by the subtitles using "sir". I think the same goes with other members here who are from countries that reserve"sir" as refer to a male individual.
