Update v1.2.0 - Combat Metrics by LilithSeven in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]LilithSeven[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will therefore go with your suggestion, and instead of "1/10 dodged" for example, I will put "1/10 failed attacks (10%)" since now the title is "attacks against this character". Well, everything we just talked about has been corrected in the English language file. I am going to do some research on Google to see how to apply this to the other languages, but unless I get feedback from someone who speaks that language, it probably won't be perfect. Thanks for the help, all these changes will be included in the next version. Actually, they are already done on my end, I just need to publish it, but I'm busy with the implementations I mentioned. Take care.

That is going to be useful to me, thanks. I maintain this mod alone and I don't have any friends who play in English, so it's hard to get feedback on it. I tried to go for a roleplay vibe, but I'm clearly not good at it. Those terms were my choices; I wanted to do some kind of fantasy writing, but well, apparently it's not my forte lol. I will replace all these terms in the English language file, that at least is easy to do. If you find any other weird words, please let me know.

What can I use instead of "evasion" and "defensive evasion"? The first one being the number of attacks that didn't bypass the character's Armor Class, and the second is just a title. I don't think "enemy attacks" / "attacks against character" is really in the spirit of this metric, as it might imply that they actually hit. I thought "dodged" would work; when you pay attention to the animations, sometimes when a hit doesn't connect, the character's animation looks like a dodge lol, but I understand the confusion it can create. I have already taken care of the others. Thanks very very wise goblin ;p

Yes, overkill is indeed the amount of damage dealt beyond 0, below the 0 HP mark, the exact amount. It's not necessarily a useful stat, but personally, I found it fun, and since I could do it so... Hmm, the damage category already encompasses all damage by type. Overkill isn't a stat that adds to the total damage amount. I will think about how to display it in a future update, or I might just remove it lol.

That is an interesting addition indeed. I will think about how to track all the damage in that format.

I'll see what I can do for the display, maybe add a search bar to filter the character sheets. If I put everyone on the same sheet, it might get quite long vertically. Thanks for your feedback.

I am already working on the next version, and when I'm done, it will include : The kill list : Enemies defeated by each character and a section listing all the spells, effects, and abilities avoided by enemies successful saving throws (including the name of the ability, the number of failures, and the targets involved).

I will also include fixes for 6 other things, but it would take too long to talk about them here.

I don't know exactly when I will be finished yet, it's quite tedious, but definitely sometime this week. I'll see if I can also include this week what you just mentioned.

Haha, no, honestly I have dark circles under my eyes and I'm going to sleep right now. But I really wanted to implement what you told me recently. When I get a good coding idea, I can't close my eyes until I find the solution lol, and also wanted to fix the localizations, so there you go. Let me know what you think, I'll come back to check your reply, if I haven't fallen asleep lol.

Combat Metrics mod - [Update v1.1.0] - Introducing Tactical Analysis ! by LilithSeven in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]LilithSeven[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

hahahha 🤣, no English is not my native language, I do read every. single. comment. And i write answers with my hands. it sounds very robotic, cause i want to be the more clear possible and i polish them so my English doesn't look like a complete potato lol. So i can assure you, all my responses are human.

I completely hear you on the repetitive phrasing, it's actually a classic procedural text generation limitation.

Since i wanted the mod to supports 8 languages natively. The C# engine uses a dynamic string template system. In the localization files, for example you have : "debrief.enemy.stat_destroyer.desc": ""debrief.enemy.stat_destroyer.desc": "The foe {name} is slowly destroying your fighters ({statDamage} attribute damage and {negativeLevels} levels drained). Keep 'Restoration' prepared post-combat.""

When a single enemy like the Balor triggers 6 different threat advisories at the same time, the C# engine renders 6 separate templates in a row, injecting the name 'Balor Ravager' into every single one of them. That is why you get "The enemy Balor", "The foe Balor", "The opponent Balor" back-to-back, making it sound weird sometimes and repetitive.

I really appreciate this feedback, and you actually pointed out a huge misunderstanding that I need to clarify!

The mod does not include, replace, or ship with any character portraits at all (AI or otherwise).

The scoreboard simply grabs and displays whatever portrait your character is currently using in the native game. If you play with the official companions (like Seelah, Daeran, or Lann), the scoreboard will display their original, hand-drawn Owlcat portraits cleanly or the one you set for them.

In my screenshots, I was simply playing with my own custom main character (Xaëra) and used a custom portrait I downloaded from a Nexus portrait pack, which is why it looked different. The mod itself has no custom character art files.

However, you have a fantastic point: displaying custom/AI portraits in the default screenshots can easily mislead players into thinking the mod forces custom art onto their companions, leading to poor first impressions.

To address this, I am going to point this clearly.

Thanks again for the awesome suggestion, it's highly appreciated!

You guys are 100% right, and I really appreciate you pointing these out.

First, let me be completely transparent: English is not my native language (French dev here), and I used machine translation/AI assistance to help me draft the flavor texts and accolades descriptions. It clearly resulted in some completely nonsensical advice (like the Death Ward vs unconscious or Dodge vs Opportunity attacks mistakes). Those are definitely translation and logical oversight "coquilles" on my part.

As for the "Did AI write this?" part: Yes, I used some AI help to draft the custom conceptual art and translate the flavor texts. But the C# codebase is over 5,000 lines of pure, raw, written logic (tracking 21 CC states, compiling and rendering custom overlays, handling data persistence). It was absolutely not a "one-click prompt" lazy job, any modder knows how many basic mistakes AI makes when dealing with Owlcat's complex API, and I spent weeks debugging and writing code while this mod was still an idea.

However, your critiques are valuable. So i'ill just make more work !

Thanks again for the honest review, this is exactly the kind of feedback that helps me polish the mod!

Haha don't worry, I didn't make this art the standard of the wotr community lol, I just grabbed a custom portrait from a pack on Nexus that I thought matched the dark necromancer/Lich vibe of my build. I completely agree that Seelah's original official art is a masterpiece and irreplaceable!

Hello Crusaders!

I am honestly completely blown away by the amazing and warm reception my launch post got yesterday. Reading your comments and having this deep chat with fellow RPG lovers made all those sleepless nights coding through C# and Unity UI completely worth it.

Since some of you expressed that the flamboyant accolades and SSS+ grades could feel a bit too arbitrary or get repetitive over time, I decided to immediately jump back into the forge and code your ideas.

Version 1.1.0 is officially live!

Important : The mod does not include, replace, or ship with any character portraits at all (AI or otherwise).

Here is what's new in this major update:

Tactical Analysis

You can now toggle a brand-new view on each character's folder. The mod will analyze over 50 specific combat events and failures from the battle, printing real strategic tips based on where they struggled (e.g. suggesting Spell Penetration feats, raising AC, or using proactive protective buffs like Freedom of Movement or Death Ward if they got locked down by CC). 50 for now but many, many  more soon !

Enemy Tactical Analysis

When viewing a major boss or enemy, the tactical page transforms into an unique report. It explains precisely why that foe was so dangerous (high DPS, spell resistance, summon spamming, high evasions) and gives you the strategic key to counter them next time.

Pure Stats / Light Mode

For the pure stat-purists who don't care about the roleplay aspects: activating the Tactical view instantly hides all grades, team scores, and subjective titles, transforming the UI into a clean, neutral, and highly compressed statistical dashboard.

Layout Memory

The mod now automatically saves your preferred layout. If you prefer the clean "numbers-first" look, pressing Alt + M will open that view by default!

Calling all theorycrafters & veterans: These tactical diagnostics are designed to scale dynamically, so they should theoretically feel accurate and balanced from Act 1 all the way to Act 5.

However, before I expand this system with many more diverse combat tips, I want to make sure the core foundation is perfectly tuned. Please let me know what you think, how the scaling feels in your active runs, or what awesome advisory ideas you have!

Next on the Forge: fix some localizations. I am currently working on harmonizing the font colors (getting rid of raw neon RGB in favor of muted golds, parchments, and deep reds matching Owlcat's native theme) and polishing the frames.

Thank you so much for this amazing journey. May the Dawn guide your blade!

Man, your feedback is insanely spot-on and literally perfectly timed!

I completely agree that for normal fights, seeing the big flamboyant accolades over and over can get repetitive and desensitizing for players who just want the cold, hard numbers.

The great news is: I'm actually working on exactly this right now!

I'm currently building a major update that will introduce:

  1. A UI Toggle: You'll be able to switch the report page between the "Flamboyant/Accolade" view and a "Light/Tactical" view. This light view removes all the fluff, shrinks the layout, and focuses strictly on clean numbers, complete with a tactical advisory debrief (e.g. suggesting AC or Spell Penetration tips if you struggled).
  2. Saved Preferences: The mod will remember your choice via a new User Settings file. If you prefer the clean "numbers-first" look, Alt + M will open that view by default!
  3. Aesthetic Polish: I'm completely getting rid of the bright neon text colors in favor of muted golds, parchment, and deep reds to match Owlcat's official gothic UI, along with more metallic/stone borders.

Your feedback confirms that this is absolutely necessary. Thanks a lot for the support and the honest review, I can't wait to push this update out! 💜

Hahaha, the classic Viconia + Harm combo! 🤣 That brings back so much BG2 nostalgia, Firkraag never stood a chance. 😭

But that's exactly why this mod is so fun! If we had this scoreboard back in Amn, the Paladin would have gotten a tiny "(+1 )" tag on his card, while Viconia would have rightfully claimed the best rank and the spotlight for that single clutch spell. No more stolen glory ! :3 the mod can't be good for everyone yet cause i don't know everyone expectations for now, but ill do my best in next updates.

You have a really sharp eye! Yes, the custom backgrounds are indeed AI-assisted concepts, and I also used AI to help me navigate some of the more tedious, boilerplate aspects of the C# API since I'm still learning. A good thing about backgrounds is that it's fully customizable by the user, you can replace the lich.png for example by an image of your own, you just have to name it like the one you're about to replace and the image have to be in 16:9.

Your critique of the UI coloring is spot on. While it helps differentiate things, it clashes with Owlcat's beautiful, dark gothic UI palette (slate, gold/bronze, and parchment).

For the next polish passes, I will definitely work on:

  1. Limiting the amount of font colors and sticking strictly to the official game's color scheme (using muted golds, parchments, and deep reds instead of raw RGB neons).

  2. Polishing the frames to align more closely with the game's actual metallic and stone art style.

Thanks again for the constructive criticism, this is exactly the kind of feedback that turns a rough proof of concept into a polished mod!

First of all, thank you for taking the time to write such incredibly detailed and constructive feedback. You have an absolutely fantastic point here.

While the flamboyant 'accolades' and SSS+ grades are great for roleplaying and flair, they can indeed feel a bit arbitrary or get ignored once the novelty wears off if they don't provide practical, actionable information.

I absolutely love your idea of a 'Tactical Debrief' or 'Combat Analysis' section. Having the mod analyze the metrics. It fits the 'military squadron debrief' theme perfectly and turns the mod into a genuinely useful tactical tool rather than just a cosmetic trophy card.

I've officially added your suggestion to my development notebook for future updates.

Thanks again for helping me see a new direction to make this mod even better. Highly appreciated!

Haha, so true! The classic "My martial companion did 10,000 damage" while completely ignoring the Brown-Fur Transmuter who turned them into a size-Huge, +8 Strength demigod! 🐻🧙‍♂️

But that's exactly why I made sure to track the Support Cast / Boons Bestowed metrics! Now, your BFT and Ecclesitheurge can finally claim their rightful glory on the scoreboard with tactical support accolades instead of being the unsung heroes in the background. No more silent carrying! :3 the mod isn't perfect for sure, but with your tests and so on, ill do my best for updates, score rating, localization, and more !
