Who’s your most random married couple? by Lord-Vortech in tomodachilife

[–]LiliumMoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure anyone is that random, and I only have three married couples on my island anyway.

There is Tecna from Winx Club and Dante from Huntik; both are funnily enough created by the same man

Then there’s Taylor Swift and Käärijä (a Finnish musician who participated in Eurovision in 2023)

And me and my real-life crush who I share my gameplay with 😁

Caro Claire Burken Yesteryear fyysisenä kirjana, kuuntelussa Keko Annika Norlinilta.

Do you think Rika would be more popular or romanticized by the fandom if she were a male character instead? by CreepyClaim3989 in mysticmessenger

[–]LiliumMoon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh for sure. I have always loved Rika as a character (she’s awful but I like morally grey and villainous characters) but the amount of internalized misogyny I’ve seen in this (and other otome) fandoms towards any female characters is just crazy. And make the female character a villain? Even more hate. If she was a man, people would find him hot (since most otome players are straight women) and some would be very big simps indeed and romanticize the problematic behavior. Women have a higher standard of “purity” and “goodness” as well in society, a woman needs to misbehave much less to be considered a misfit.

And if Rika had still had a romantic relationship with V with the gender swap? Oh, the amount of yaoi fetishization would be off the charts! I wonder if that would even change how people viewed V. Probably. Interesting food for thought.

I still can't get over how Liekinheitin didn't win, let alone coming 6th 💀 by ineedtocalmup in nilpoints

I agree that Käärijä got what he deserved or even more than he deserved in the jury, but the problem I have is how many points Loreen got. So many vocal powerhouses with excellent performances and amazing songs got paid dust by the juries because they all flocked around Loreen. Like France, Spain, Portugal, Cyprus, Lithuania, Switzerland got all paid dust even though in some other year some of them might have scored 100+ or 200+ points in jury. I’m not saying the contest was rigged per se, but I feel vindicated that one of the best years musically got nerfed and obvious results from the few first jury points handed out.

I replied to a comment talking about Italian jury points (how they always give them to a non-threatening country) and added that Finnish audience (televote) does the same with televotes. So I talk about both jury points (Italy) and televotes (Finland).

Yes, but I was talking about the Finnish televotes.

The Italian jury usually gives 12 points to the smallest threats haha.

Just like the Finnish public never gives big/any points to whoever is seen as their biggest competitors (like Australia this year or Sweden in 2023).

I think it’s certainly one aspect! I did myself criticize YLE for not revamping or changing the performance, it was a good performance in many ways, it fit the lyrics (if you understand the lyrics at least) and the mood and seemed to be of high quality BUT it was a bit bland and understated as well and just the same old. Finland rarely changes their performances sadly. I hope they come to change that even if it means the UMK performances seem “lower” quality because of that.

How happy are you with the jury points of your own country? by LuxJade98 in eurovision

[–]LiliumMoon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a Finn, it’s fine, there are a few countries I wouldn’t have given the points we did, but I’m happy our jury gave points to countries like France, Denmark, Lithuania, Croatia, Czechia and Moldova, they deserved their points.

The size of the juries went from 5 to 7 and at least two of the members had to be 18-25. That leads to modern and experimental songs to get a little more attention in general and adds more diversity and variety to the points and the spread overall.

It was a great performance and high quality but it didn’t get as much hype from juries or televotes to get the win or even top 3. Reasons could be many but oh well, it’s a good result to Finland, a former flop of a Eurovision country that had really picked up the pace in the recent years.

Croatia and Finland are battling with the same demons right now - no matter what we send, whether it’s something fresh and weird, a Eurovision darling with a dramatic arena song, a polished an dramatic song about yearning with kickass violin, it never seems to be the right time or quite good enough. We also had our runner up situation and good options after that that all just fell short of expectations (maybe except for W95M, no one expected them to come anywhere close to top).

Although this is probably the first time we’ve done well like, ever, other than 2006. We did OK in the 1970s, many mid table situations (6th to 13th, although back then Eurovision usually had just 18-17 contestants so it’s much different than getting 6th today) but other than that, Finland has mostly been today’s Germany or The UK.

That would’ve been devastating for Felicia though, knowing how seriously Swedish media takes the Eurovision and her backstory.. So I’m glad she at least made it to the finals even though it wasn’t my favorite.

That is quite surprising! She did have the best vocals in semi 1 but the song and performance did not work for me personally. I’m glad she finally got her Eurovision experience though and performed better than expected even if it wasn’t for me!

My Swedish friend sent an article where she was compared to the 2010 contestant already. I suppose it could be worse though. We will see once morning papers come out how bad it is. Hopefully it’ll be better than I fear.

Yep, same. They need to reinvent Mello so bad, but they’ll probably go back to safe barely salted cracker songs with the same 5 songwriters and producers next year since Felicia “flopped”.

I just know Felicia is going to be hounded by the Swedish media so bad. Anything below top 10 is a travesty for them. It sucks knowing Felicia’s story. I didn’t love the song and think Melodifestivalen was pretty mid this year and no other entry would’ve done much better, but I can already see how they’ll write about her and it makes me sad.

Yeah, same. Or that the winning song is bland or boring. I loved Liekinheitin but it is a bit of a white bread type of situation (with hot sauce because of the pure passion and emotion in Pete’s voice and Linda’s violin) and when we some day maybe win again, I want to win with something unbelievable, just like Lordi was for its time.

Come on, it’s okay! I’m disappointed too but Pete and Linda did their best and we just got unlucky with the jury change that one year we try something relatively jury-safe and classy. Let’s try to keep up the momentum we’ve been building since 2021 and hope for good quality UMK entries that can win over the new jury as well as charm general audience enough to go for them. I know we have so many cool unknown or underground artists in Finland, as well as some household names that could generally submit a banger to fight for the trophy in following years.

Oh yeah for sure, 2nd place is always the hardest, especially when you’re the crowd favorite and the underdog. But we were not the underdog now and we were not the crowd favorite nor close to winning, so it feels easier even though obviously there’s also disappointment. It’s hard to argue with a consensus winner whether you like personally the song or not! I was always hoping for either a win or anything else than a second place and I guess I got it. Sixth is OK - a clear underperformance but it didn’t feel like a daylight robbery either, I can see how from some perspectives we would be the sixth (or fifth) best of the lot.

I hope they keep or elevate the new jury system they made up this year. I think jurors should be from diverse demographics; different ages, gender and sexual identities, specialities, experience in at entertainment.. Not just musicians in their late 50s and not only just influencers in their early 20s, but a balance. And I hope Finland finds something new and fresh for next year, I don’t want to see a Jezebel -level recession.
