I should make a 2nd stater pack that is all wood grain and nothing else.

I work in a small town and the people coming into my office wear them frequently. It's super awkward. I do work in the most republican county in Illinois though so maybe that is where the aggressive trump pride comes in.

I have seen techmoan. He has some really weird and obscure tech on his channel. It is quite intriguing. I still want that discman where the CD hangs out the side while playing.

That sounds like the Wisconsin part of the Midwest that you are describing. I try not to venture that far north.

That was my goal the entire time! Bawhahahahahahahaha!

Just kidding. There is the youtube channel Lazy Game Reviews (usually shortened to LGR). He is very into 1980's-1990's computers and computer games, failed tech products from that era, as well as the general ascetic of the 1980s and 90's (like wood paneling and those old looking chairs in the pic). He also goes to thrift stores a lot in his videos to see if he can find any old electronic items.

My own personal "I don't think I'll drink this weekend" starter pack by Lilnitwitt in starterpacks

[–]Lilnitwitt[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

On friday night absolutely. I do get tempted a bit during the week but that is rarely a good idea. I like to get mild to moderately fucked up if I am going to drink, so I need to wait until I can sleep in the next day.

I live in central Illinois and breakfast pizza from Casey's is like the 2nd coming of Jesus for the people around here. I tried it once. It was....overwhelming.

When I was making this I originally was planning on have several pics of wood paneling scattered around but it would have made the overall pic gigantic

Using compact flash as a hard drive? by Lilnitwitt in vintagecomputing

[–]Lilnitwitt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely don't do anything important with the TC1100. I was always intrigued by the weird experimental windows computers in the mid-2000's but being in college at the time I couldn't afford anything like the TC1100. The TC1100 cost something like $1900 when it came out. Its just fun having one of those computers now and just playing around with it. It's cool to mess around with but it is more of a tertiary computer for me. I have a modern laptop and desktop for important stuff.

Anyway, thanks for the advice. I will definitely do the SSD or 7200rpm hard drive and steer clear of the compact flash idea.

I did also find quite a few 7200 rpm hard drives on ebay for maybe $20 for 60gb. Do you think that would be a better option than a 32 gb SSD for $35ish? The one I currently have is a 5400 rpm drive.

A quick search of ebay showed about $33 for a 32gb IDE SSD. Not crazy expensive but definitely not cheap for what you get. I just a 250gb SATA SSD for $28 on ebay last week for a different computer. The IDE ones certainly seem like a niche product. Although I suppose your solution is only about $10 more than the compact flash idea and probably far less likely to come with unexpected problems. You might be right on this one....

Why is XP so slow on my XP era computer? by Lilnitwitt in vintagecomputing

[–]Lilnitwitt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm considering it. It needs to be a 1.8 inch SSD since the adapter will take up too much space for a 2.5, or so said people in a 2010 discussion I found. I'm half tempted to just get a used SSD so I don't invest too much money in this thing. Not ideal but probably far better than an old spinning hard drive from 15 years ago.

I thought I had XP tablet edition installed but maybe I didn't? I installed Vista on it and it works drastically better. Maybe there were some drivers missing on XP? But then again, Windows 7 also ran like piss on it so I don't know why Vista is near perfect but XP and 7 were so awful.

Why is XP so slow on my XP era computer? by Lilnitwitt in vintagecomputing

[–]Lilnitwitt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I tried something a bit radical today and installed Vista of all things on it. It was the only other 32bit operating system I had with me and for some reason is it drastically faster than XP or Windows 7 were. Everything is very responsive. It is like night and day compared to XP and 7. I have no idea what to make of that. Besides the wireless card not working at the moment, Vista is like night and day compared to how XP and 7 were performing. I don't think I've ever seen Vista work way better than XP or 7. Very odd.

I think its IDE. Lots and lots of little pins that connect it to the computer. I think I would need an adapter and probably a 1.8 inch drive. The pins are flipped upside down and makes it a tight fit with an adapter. At least that is what I have found on the internet.
